Owners Debbie and Kyle Dahl met in the early 1990's and started working for a local Auburn, CA heating and air conditioning company. They were soon bought out by a large corporation in Texas.

Fred came over as scheduled and determined that the wiring in the AC plug has shorted. It was not determined what could have caused this issue, but it may have been a power surge. The thermostat screen was blank, so he tried out another one to see if this was the problem. He determined that this was not the problem and then started checking all current locations until he found the shorted plug.
This issue could have caused an electrical fire, which would have spread to the house in the attic. I am very happy that through his knowledge of the system, he probably saved me from a major electrical/fire issue. His work was excellent and I hope he continues to work at Maki for years to come.

The salesman was on time and professional. He was knowledgeable and thorough. Some of the things that I wanted were not listened to and a few design ideas were strange. I recommend obtaining multiple bids as Maki Air was 90% higher than others received. The bid I received from Maki Air was for a five zone mini split at $30,000. Another company quoted me $16,000.

Recently purchased a new (old house) and had furnace give up on us. I knew I wanted a ductless mini split system and Maki was one of the few around the area who had a fair amount of experience with them. I did my due diligence by reaching out to several contractors for quotes, researched posted install costs, and even thought about doing the install myself.
Ultimately Maki came through with the best lead time and fair pricing. 10 out of 10 I would choose Maki again. They were prompt, informative, professional, friendly, and did an outstanding job. The lead tech even pointed out a bad flue design on my gas water heater and corrected it just as a safety measure. We love our new system. Thank you all!

We had a mini split installed in our Granny Unit a year or so ago and we purchased the maintenance agreement to ensure it lasts as promised. Once again, we had the 'scheduled' service today and I could not be any more pleased. Fred was terrific, a young guy but a testament to good parents who instilled Great values. He helped me climb a ladder to see an issue that needs addressing and he did the maintenance required.
I find it hard these days to find people who can be trusted and who are willing to work as required. This company has not let me down and they continue to hire terrific responsible people, from the joyful girls on the phone to the techs who come to the door. If your looking for heating or air systems. in my opinion, if you hire these ppl you won't be disappointed.

Maki has serviced my HVAC units for more than two decades, and earlier this week they just replaced the unit they installed 16 years ago with a brand new one. Maki staff are unfailingly polite, answer all my questions whenever I chat with them, and are completely professional in their work, attire, and attitude while on the job. I'd highly recommend them for any HVAC needs.

Signed up under a maintenance agreement last year but when I never heard from them, I called to find out when exactly I'd be seeing them. Instead of them coming each season (every 6 months) I was strung along to wait 9 months. By that time, my nearly 20-yo unit had caught fire, burned the circuitry board, melted capacitors, wiring, and needed replacing.
Their bid was well over $12k, including financing, and overselling me with another 4-ton unit rather than the original 3.5-ton that was its original footprint. This was confirmed when astute A&A Heating and Air investigated the 16 hole in my cold air return and gave me a bid for $3k less for a more appropriately-sized unit. After checking my homeowners insurance, I found that I have a $500 deductible that will cover EVERYTHING!
I didn't need financing; Maki's guy, Russell, jumped the gun, 'cuz he didn't want to come back up from Rocklin later, where he lives, to secure the bid, stating Maki was giving me the best deal possible - NOT! Lesson learned! Don't EVER sign up for a maintenance agreement where you get pushed out to a service-call NINE MONTHS LATER rather than every 6 months.
We have MANY local HVAC contractors who are caring, concerned, decent people who give you the liberty to shop around, secure bids, and not be pushy to promote their own agenda. Go with these companies. Yes, Debbie, this is a disturbing review detailing MY experience. I would never want another customer to experience what I did, so I will always speak truth.

MAKI Electric did a great job scoping out and installing our Generac natural gas generator earlier this year. I was so impressed with their work that I signed on to their Gold Plan for HVAC maintenance, after leaving a company where I had a 25-year history. (That company grew too large and service plummeted.) BRENT came today for our first AC service with Maki and did an outstanding job including detailed documentation. MAKIs phone interface is also excellent. MAKI, keep up the quality and don't get too large.

Worst experience ever. Lets just say that I'll never use Maki again. I called another company. They came out the nex't day and took care of the problem for about half the Maki price. They have a customer for life. Being born and raised in Auburn I get asked from time to time who I would recommed for heating and air service. It won't be Maki. And I plan on spreading the word!

Our old furnace quit working and we called for bids. Maki heating and air was prompt fair and within two weeks we had an estimate financing and installation. The installation team exceeded my expectations. All were courteous and knowledgeable with thoughtful solutions for our for our new system. We now have HVAC that is way more efficient thank you Harlan Van Vooren

They were very prompt in responding to my request for a quote. Even better, they were able to get a technician to my house within a couple days. The issue I had was embarrassing simple but they were able to get my power back on in my kitchen quickly. The cost was extremely fair and actually less than other quotes I received just to diagnose the problem. I will contact them again if I'm in need of an electrician.

Maki's heater repairman came to my home to "diagnose" my heater, as it wasn't turning on. After literally only 10 seconds of looking at my heater, he said it's probably just a fuse. I said, "great" noticing the bag of 10 cent fuses he pulled out of his pocket. Then I was told it would cost me an additional 120 dollars on top of the "diagnostic" fee to put a fuse in.
Absolute con job. What a bad business move on Maki's part considering si own 4 houses in Grass Valley. The salesman immediately tried to sell me an 8 thousand dollar heater without even seeing how my heater operated, or checking if a fuse would fix the problem. I said I couldn't afford it, which he replied they would finance it for me. This place pretends to be a local establishment that cares but they are hustlers.
They will try to sell you a heater when your heater works perfectly fine. I had a buddy come over and put in a new $.10 fuse and the heater turned on immediately and has been working great since. There's nothing wrong with my heater. This establishment didn't want me to know that. They would've happily sold me an $8000 heater even though mine worked perfectly fine and was less than 10 years old. Beware of this company. They're real nice on the phone and then try to overcharge you and sell you something you don't need when they show up. Beware! There are much better companies in Grass Valley and surrounding areas.

Macki installed my heat and a/c unit and they where great people that did a great job. However their incessant phone calls wanting to do maintenance on our system has worn me out. I''m a retired master technician and know this carrier unit does not need the service they're selling us. I asked them when they did service last time to clean the condenser of leaves and dog hair by blowing it out with air pressure.
Instead the tech took a garden hose to the condenser and washed it, (wrong). He made a wet mess of the electrical area. A Dangerous & Messy job. Second, our unit does not need this constant service that they're doing. First they started calling my phone trying to make an appointment to service it again to which I declined and said " It's fine " leave it alone.
Then today, a month later they called my wife's phone and set another appt, " Too aggressive maintenance calling on work not necessary " We loved the guys & there work on installation, but quit calling and selling me & my wife unnecessary service.
Instead the tech took a garden hose to the condenser and washed it, (wrong). He made a wet mess of the electrical area. A Dangerous & Messy job. Second, our unit does not need this constant service that they're doing. I contacted Maki Electric on Yelp (along with a few others), and they got back to me really quickly. They were able to send someone out within a few days. My husband said the technician did a great job installing new outlets in some unique areas of the property. We will definitely be contacting them again for our electrical and HVAC needs.

Maki put a new swamp cooler on our roof in June 2020. Job was done with care and right on time. They spent all day, making it just right. However, I went up on the roof within the next week and found it leaking water. They sent a fellow out who tightened and caulked it around the corners which stopped the leaking. Now when its time to winterize it, I find the panels extremely hard to remove if not impossible.
The sheet metal seems to be out of alignment or something causing the panels to be stuck. When pulling up on them the whole unit comes up. I need to get my wife to sit on it while I try and pull up these stuck panels. Seems like a manufacturing flaw by Essick. I called into Maki to see if they had any suggestions and they told me I could buy a maintenance contract for $150/yr.
I never had this problem with my old unit and wouldn't have expected a simple maintenance task would be so hard with a new one. Anyway, I will have to deal with it myself some way. Prior to this exchange I would have recommended them but now based on their response to this issue, I'm not so sure.

Maki is simply the best in the area. We got a new HVAC system through them and the entire process from beginning to end was one of the best professional services we've ever received. Their service plans are also an amazing deal. Debbie, the owner, is one of the nicest hands-on owners you will ever meet. As long as we live in the area we will never use another HVAC company.

I know this company's success isn't riding on one more positive review but I want to add it anyway. I've called them twice in the past 3 months for unrelated AC issues. Both times they responded and dispatched same day. That alone is unheard of these days. Both times a polite, friendly receptionist sent out a qualified, professional tech who quickly identified and repaired my system.
I also signed up for their service contract, not so much for the protection but more the peace of mind knowing they are the only company I need to remember when I have service issues again. Good job Maki!

I can't say enough good things about Maki. They came in and diagnosed the problem, gave me a quote and came within the week. They sent enough guys to get the work done quickly. They were all so polite, introduced all of the guys, taped up the registers, got the work done quickly, asked before they used the facilities, cleaned up after themselves. They all wore their masks all day long. Could've have been a better experience.

Makiair in Auburn, Ca. John went into the incredibly hot attic and wasn't coming down until he was absolutely sure the whole house fan was fixed right. He's an awesome guy with a big heart. Made an appointment for an estimate for a repair over the weekend. The appointment window was 2:00-4:00pm. I was notified by phone at 1:57pm that they needed to cancel my appointment. I had taken the afternoon off of work to be here for the appointment window. I appreciate the phone call (hence the two stars rather than one) but more notice would have been great. Will be going with another company for the repair.

Last year they did a tune up; this year it broke. Hot summer days and my warranty guys are booked until Saturday. Cannot understand why you have to do some mediocre job on a premium system. I see all the coils inside are dirty and God knows what else broke in it may be after your tuneup? Will be knowing this Saturday I suppose. Too bad.
