John Stokley founded STOKLEY'S SERVICES in 1938 to meet the growing need for mechanical refrigeration in the Tidewater area. The fledgling Norfolk Company quickly developed a reputation for professionalism and reliability. When WWII started, STOKLEY'S SERVICES was utilized to provide around the clock service to preserve large quantities of food for our troops in the European battlefields.
STOKLEY'S SERVICES can custom design and install a cooling and heating system designed to keep you comfortable all year round. Since 1938, STOKLEY'S has been keeping Tidewater comfortable with quality products and services. We can install any brand that we want. With our reputation in the area and within the HVAC industry, we are able to choose what brand(s) of equipment that we want to install; not many companies can say that. We will not install inferior products. We feel that to do a job right, you need more than just quality people, you need quality products.
In many cases, the air that you are breathing can be dirtier inside than it is outside. High levels of pollutants such as viruses, bacteria, spores, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, smoke, and dust inside your home and office can manifest itself through symptoms such as allergies, difficulty breathing, headaches, drowsiness, nausea and red eyes.
Losing electricity can be a scary thing. All of the sudden you can't run you're a/c or your heating systems. You can't use your sump pump, garage door opener or your security system. What happens to all the food in the refrigerator and freezer? Your lights, televisions, computers, radios, and even phones can be rendered useless.

Stockley's came out to recharge my system on my electric heat pump. They got there quite quickly and noted the compressor on the system was not functioning and checked the amperage, which was very low. I did not end up using Stockley's for any services but did have a billing issue and was impressed by how willing to help the staff was.

First let me say that the technicians that I have had over the last several years have been very good. Recently called about my AC condenser fan was not running. I assumed it was the capacitor and the technician said it checked out fine and he thought the fan motor was bad. He tried to get the AC unit model, although the data was faded. He did get the data off of the fan motor itself and said he would have the office look for the fan.

After two days I was contacted and told they could not match up the fan motor without the unit model number. I was told that since the unit was so old, beyond 10 years, I should consider replacing it. I asked why the motor data would not be sufficient and was told there could be variations. He recommended that I consider replacing it soon because pricing would be increasing substantially after the first of the year and availability would potentially be longer.

Recently I decided to look for the motor myself based upon the model data on the motor. I was able to find the exact replacement in 10 minutes online. I was able to successfully replace it myself with little effort. I wish they had put forth the minimal effort to find the replacement as I had.

Love the Stokeley's. Robb Shortt is the man. They did my whole house almost 20 years ago, moved everything outside or in attic, new ductwork. This allowed me to enlarge a bathroom which was really nice. Came back about 15 years later when ac wasn't working, figured it was broke and I was fully expecting 5000$ bill, ended up being a small part and they fixed it for like a hundred bucks. Totally could've ripped me off and i would never have known. I give them my highest recommendation without reservation.

Too long, not going to read: Honest, quick, reliable, friendly, fair priced, small company with long-term employees. They've been my go-to since finding them two years ago. In 2020 I was going through AC company after AC company trying to get my finicky Goodman's to function reliably. I called Stokley's and they sent out Jerry. He was the first ever HVAC mechanic who didn't knock on the door after 10min with a thousand dollar repair recommendation.

He told me what he saw, what he thought was causing the issue, explained everything at my level and gave recommendations for multiple different courses of action to repair. A few months down the road, I called for replacement options. Rob Shortt, the owner, spent probably an hour with me on that first phone call talking about different options. They replaced the split unit for upstairs.

The only issue was a foot through the ceiling, to which a drywall contractor contacted me that evening to schedule repairs. A few months later they replaced the downstairs package unit. Only issue with that was some missed caulking on the ducting from unit to wall. Sent Rob an email and the next day when I got home from work, it was taken care of.

It's awesome to talk to an owner (more than just once to make a sale), it's encouraging to see happy employees on-site and in the office. I am happy I found the company and my neighbor I recommended them to is beyond happy as well.

I contacted Rob Short of Stokley's Services in June to get an estimate on a full replacement of my existing heat pump system (including ducting) and conversion to an AC/Gas Heat system. He came out and did a thorough walk-thru and provided me a very reasonable quote a couple days later. We discussed when to do the job and agreed that late fall would be the best weather and availability.

I contacted him again in early October and received information I needed to get my gas meter installed. We decided on an install date and I put half down on the quote. On October 26th, Angelo, Dominique, and Marty (a.k.a. NightLight) arrived bright and early to begin demolition and system mapping. I was at work for most of the day while they were here, but I got updates each afternoon on what they got done that day and what they were planning to do the next day. Angelo was the team leader and has a firm grasp on the project status at all times.

He kept the task on track and always has a smile handy. I took the opportunity to informally inspect much of the work as they progressed and was impressed with their level of skill and craftsmanship: Sheet-metal work, electrical connections, gas-line fabrication, air-duct construction and assembly. Everything was done logically, and professionally.

I also asked, being that my house did not have gas lines installed yet, that they install the pipe in a path that will make future gas connections for water, dryer, oven, and generator easy to do. They installed capped tee connections in the gas line along the way for my future convenience. The gas line is currently being pressure tested and will maintain air pressure for a few days until the gas company certifies it.

That's peace of mind. We tested the airflow in the duct system and every vent had a nearly identical flow rate. You don't get that kind of precision by accident. When the job was done Angelo made sure that nothing was left behind, the work area was cleaner than when they started, and I had appropriate instructions for the pending gas company certification. I am 100% satisfied with the quality and value of my new high efficiency heating and cooling system. I would (and have in the past) recommend Stokley's to anyone.anytime.

Had to get my AC system replaced after 15+ years of service from the old one. Stokley's Services provided me with a very competitive quote and did not try to up sale me on anything. Once I agreed to move forward with systems replacement, Stokley's was in constant contact with me to coordinate a date/time for install. The technicians arrived on time, and proceeded to move forward with the install and throughout the entire process, they will very professional and caring about any issues or concerns that I had. Afterwards, they cleaned up their mess, and explained all the warranty paperwork, and systems operations before leaving.

They also informed me that if I experienced any issues with the install to give them a call and they will respond accordingly. In closing, I will continue to use Stokley's Services for any AC work in the future. Great service at a great price, and always care for the customers.

I called Stokley's because I hade a problem with an A/C unit that had been repaired recently. I was frustrated because the unit had just been repaired. When Jerry went out he discovered that the problem was totally unrelated to the first - in a completely different part of the system. He repaired the unit and, between Rob, the owner, Tim from service dispatch, and Michele in billing, they decided to forego charging me for the service.

They have done extensive work for me (two new units for rentals in the last few years) as well as several service calls on equipment they had not installed. Their honesty and integrity keeps me coming back.

Stokley's just finished up the install of my new unit and I'm very pleased to say the least. The quality of there work was fantastic, the guys were all professional, took a sense of pride in there work, and they fixed all the issues I had. The unit runs great. It heats and cools the house quickly and effectively. I'm incredibly happy with the the work they did and will use them again for all of my hvac needs. I will also be recommending them to anyone who needs hvac repairs.

Since I was extremely satisfied with the service and price I received the last time I used Stokley's, I immediately called them when My compressor stopped running. Called Friday afternoon and had a technician on Saturday at the exact time (10am) they said he would be here. Jerry was our technician again and I just have to say what a great guy. My dog's, who normally take a while to warm up to strangers, where following him around with tails wagging and even gave him a few kisses. Maybe they saw the picture of the dog on the side of the van. Dogs are a great judge of character. Once again, completely satisfied with everything.

On December 31st, 2019 I woke up to a cold house. Called Stokley's, and in a couple hours 2 HVAC techs arrived at my house to evaluate my 20 year old system. Based on my system's problems and age they reccomended a new system. I agreed. On 2 January 2020, 3 techs showed up and by early afternoon had replaced my old system. The techs were polite, professional and answered every question. Thanks Jerry, Angelo, Nick, and Jahmad! This is the type of service I have come to expect from Stokley's and why I have been with Stokley's for over 30 years now.

This company provided me with excellent service. They came out and provided a excellent quote for a top rated system and installation the next day. The installers were professional left no mess and we're done in under six hours my house was cooled from 97F down to 70 four hours after install and I have had zero issues. Stokley's is a excellent company and have my highest recommendation for any work you need done!

I called to have an estimate done. Rob Shortt showed up in a timely manner and was friendly. However, he didn't seem too interested in making a sale when I mentioned that I was trying to go through my homeowners insurance. He left and told me he'd send over an estimate soon. @ days after the fact, still no estimate. I called and he said he assumed that if I didn't get my insurance to cover it then I wasn't going to do it. Keyword "assumed".

I questioned him assuming and he said it would be best if I found someone else, which I am gladly doing. I don't want a company that assumes anything. Thank you for assuming in the beginning, that way I could find someone who wants my business.

Rob with Stokleys donated heating/ac unit for our non profit animal rescue Critters 4 U Rescue. AND had his very trained trained staff install the unit. They are very polite, and are animal lovers. They are very committed and professional. They even checked my AC unit in my house and did repairs to that. This is the BEST company ever. If you have any questions they are available to help.
