First - let me say that we did not select J.R. Heating & Air -- my husband and I were just ended up stuck dealing with Chance Brandt and his wife by accident. I will tell you that I would not recommend doing business with them. My husband and I purchased a weekend condo near Canyon Lake and when it was inspected the A/C wasn't working. The previous owners used their First American home warranty policy and contracted with J.R. Heating - and Chance Brandt - to fix the A/C.
The total bill was $2755.00. The work was done on 20 Feb 15. We did not close on the home until mid-March. We moved in and spend the first night on 3 Apr 15. That day we noticed the A/C was blowing warm air instead of cold. So we contacted J.R. Heating -- and first spoke with Mindy - we later found out she is the owner's wife. First question she asked my husband, "How long ago did we do the work?" Next statement, "You are past the warranty".
Just so consumers understand -- the work had been done approximately 40 days ago. And, as our electric bill will attest, we had not been living here. First time we turned on the A/C -- it didn't work. Over the course of multiple phone calls -- all within 30 minutes -- Mindy reminded us no fewer than 4 times that we were past the warranty. I understand that -- but the unit had not been in use.
She was not concerned about anyone's satisfaction with the work J.R. Heating had done -- or even if it had been done correctly the first time -- she was only making sure I understood that if anyone came out, even to look at the problem, I was going to have to pay again. Her husband did call us within an hour and told us he would be out tomorrow at 0800 - indicating that he thought he knew what it was.
He told my husband that the previous owners had put him "through the ringer on this air conditioner". I don't know what happened - as I said, we just inherited this problem. Then, 2 hours later, he called and told my husband he wasn't coming at 0800 - but would be here on Monday, then he actually hung up the phone on my husband. Since my husband wears hearing aids and couldn't hear him that well, I called Chance back to explain that no one would be here Monday - this is a weekend place and we live in San Antonio. And. the reason I am writing this review. the next thing out of Chance's mouth was "Listen, you crazy, crazy, crazy lady. Don't ever call this number again.
I am not going to fix that air conditioner!" Now -- I am really not sure what happened between the time that he told us he would have someone here tomorrow and when he called back and hung up on us. Maybe he got angry at another customer -- maybe he was having a bad day. I own a small business -- so I am usually very supportive of small businesses.
But the problem in using a small business is that they lack the manpower resources and sometimes the cash flow to take care of the customer after the sale. It looks like we will be paying for the A/C repair -- not something we expected to do when we purchased this condo. I would not recommend this company. This was a very bad experience.
