If you want an AC unit that doesn't have all the functions advertised, is significantly louder and less efficient than it could be, and has terrible customer support then look no further than Friedrich. They are the worst AC company I have purchased from. They seem to have been quality at one point, but that was a long time ago. They don't stand behind their products, some of which they know are faulty right out of the box and their manuals read as if they are written by someone who doesn't have the product in front of them and has never actually seen it. Do yourself a favor and look at other brands.

Don't even consider buying a Friedrich unit!: I paid over $1,300 for a thru the wall KEM18 unit and the internal thermostat is terrible. The previous unit that I had also had a terrible internal thermostat that the technician said could be resolved with a remote thermostat. I bought a remote thermostat and it did resolve the problem. Unfortunately according to Friedrich they discontinued the remote thermostat for this model 2 years ago.
Now I am stuck with either listening to the unit cycle off and on every minute if set on Auto, or setting the fan on On where it runs continuously. As others have noted, their customer service is terrible. You are indeed lucky if you can get anyone to answer the phone, and they don't even bother to reply to emails. Pay no attention to any Consumeraffairs.com reviews of 3.8 that you might see, as in their own words they are paid by the companies for providing their reviews.
Check their own reviews and you will see that over the last 10 years the clear majority of the reviews have been 1 Star with only 1 or 2 reviews having reviews of 4 or 5. So how in the world do they arrive at an overall review of 3.8?

Long story short: Dealing with the company Customer service is a pathetic nightmare. I had bought a very expensive AC which arrived damaged. The companies affiliated AC techs don't care or want to come. The customer service department lies. You wait on hold, they hang up, they lie to just get you off the phone. Its basically a war of attrition. I wrote to corporate and never got a response.
They farm out customer service and nobody is watching them. Do yourself a favor and buy from a Japanese or Korean company. Friedrich doesn't care about their consumers, especially if your not a large business.

I bought a friedrich dehumidifier model D70BPA through Amazon in June 2017. I use it during the summer months in my basement. When I went to use it this summer in June 2020 The cooling fins would not become cool. thus no dehumidification would occur. Finding an authorized repair place was difficult, when I called friedrich they gave me the name of two places but would not tell me the address or how far away they were from my location.
I called both of those locations only to find out they were no longer servicing Friedrich products. The last place suggested I check online which I did and found a few others as well ( I did note that online the location of each service area was clearly indicated, not sure why the representative would not tell me that information) Today i called friedrich to find out about what would happen if my unit could not be repaired.
The representative told me that I only have the standard one-year warranty and the product is not covered past One year unless I bought an extended warranty. I told the representative on the brochure that came with the humidifier it states that the limited warranty is Described in two sections, first section is the first year coverage, the second section says "second through fifth year" and describe what is covered through that period.
There is no mention of having to purchase an extra warranty to get the second through the fifth year coverage. because of the lack of warranty coverage I have told my repair place to just trash the unit. it's not worth the expense of having it repaired without any warranty coverage. I will never buy any friedrich product again!

The Friedrich reps them self don't know details of their own air conditioner units and they provide false information I emailed them about a portable air conditioner if it has auto mode for heat and cool and they emailed me back that it has and I verified it again with them and they said it has that feature but in fact it did not have that feature so later I called them in asking them about this so they said that this representative that I emailed was a temporary representative.
I also bought an air conditioner model number ys10 10000-btu and paid for that more than $1,000, when it arrived the instructions book showed that I need mounting brackets but they did not include that with the air conditioner they did not even include the top angle to prevent it from falling out the window, also the front grill louvers broke after the first use! They are charging so much money for the air conditioner and providing such cheap products, BEWARE!

Completely useless company. Have 3 of their ductless units. Problems with bearings on fans on all three - both inside and out components. Latest problem. 24000 btu unit quit producing cold air. 127 degrees in Las Vegas. Ordered part at 8:00am Friday. For whatever reason did not ship. Monday was Labor day. Obviously did not ship. Promised expedited shipping on Tuesday. Did not ship.
Today they tell me they are shipping GROUND tomorrow. What happened to expedited? Now I can expect to receive it sometime next week. So at best it will be 11 days in triple digit heat because Freidrich cant/wont pull the part and ship it. I offered last Friday to pay for expedited shipping. Customer service is non-existent and quality of product horrible.
Go for Daikin or Mitsubishi instead. Update.- second 24000 ductless just went down. Tech support was NO help at all. Didnt have any idea why it was not producing cold air. Bought two units from competitor. Only 2 year warranty on Freidrich. Do the math and comparisons.

Customer service is a joke. My Daughter is going on a month without heat and now its 20 degrees outside and she's still get slow-played by Friedrich AND Melton appliance because they cant produce the part to repair it (the heat element).it's been on back order all this time yet they won't replace the unit. Stay away from these people their word and warranty are both no good.

Had 3 mini split units. Outdoor fan bearings went bad after 3 years on two. Third unit was defective upon arrival - required new solenoid. Tech support advised to buy a certain part. Turned out to be for a different model. Next attempt at part was for a newer model. Neither would work. AC tech came on site and spent three hours with tech support from Freidrich.
Two different techs had no idea how to fix issue with no cold air. Had to trash two of the three units. Replaced them from another manufacturer. Freidrich also only have a 2 year warranty compared to 5 from others. Tells you something.

Bought a through the wall Ac unit. Came defective made in China as usual. Front panel was warped and trim didn't fit. Unit wasn't square either. I decided to install anyway since I'm a mechanic and can make it work plus it was hot. Contacted friedrich for warranty. The pieces are back ordered which is a joke. It's a simple plastic front panel. Called 3 times already with no results.
The unit is ok, heat mode is kind of a joke. It blows warm air not hot. If I knew all this was going to happen in would of went to home Depot instead. The unit is annoying as it comes on every 2 and half minutes to check the air temperature. I'm a hvac mechanic so I know what I'm talking about. They shoukd have least have a switch for different interval times for the blower to come on to check air temp. I think once every 6-8 minutes would be alot better and less annoying. Filter is cheap looking and quality. China made $700 pos!
