The A/C picked the worst time to decide not to participate during last week's heat wave. Called Richard's and got an appointment for the next morning, but I had to cancel. Kaylan was understanding, and we rebooked the appointment without urgency because the heat wave broke. Olim was the technician and has a 5.0/5 rating, and I have to agree with his rating.
He immediately identified the issue, fixed it, checked the compressor, and went on his way to hopefully earn another 5 rating at his next appointment. This was the first time we have used Richard's and would highly recommend!

I can't say enough great things about the excellent service and quality customer care from Richard heating and air! My mom is a senior and this is the third time they have came to our rescue, same day service, top shelf work, they work until the job is complete, not 5 o'clock when most folks just wanna call it a day. Their team is kind and considerate, and very knowledgeable in their field.
I gave 10 stars to the entire team from the ladies that answered the phone, and called me back five minutes later to tell me they pulled somebody off a roof four towns away to get to my moms house to fix her heater, to the amazing service technicians that show up with a smile on their face even though my mom and her caretaker are stressed they are very soothing and reassuring that things will get fixed, then they go the extra mile to travel all over the bay to find this one part they need to fix mom's heater now so we can get the house ba k yo to 70 happy degrees!.
Above and beyond top quality customer service I can't say enough about this great team, three times in a row they have exceeded our expectations! Thank you all for being the amazing caring team that you are, we will spread your praises far and wide! Thank you thank you thank you Michele Fran Suzi and Miranda!

Dustin came out and diagnosed our A/C problem. He explained it to me and told me what needed to be done. He was very Friendly and Professional as well. He made sure before he left that the unit was working properly and was very honest when he said that it may need to be replaced in the near future. If and when that happens I will definitely use. Richards again.
We actually know Richard himself as we see him downtown in our city and that's why his company was the first I thought of when our AC unit started acting up. I would highly recommend Richards to anyone that needs A/C work. Thanks again for the very quick service!

I would give them 0 stars if I could. Terrible. I had an AC problem and when I called I explained the situation and where the AC unit was on the building and that there was no stair well or ladder on the side of the building. I wanted to be clear about that when scheduling it so that I wouldn't waste anyone's time. I have had someone come out here before from a different business and use their ladder to get to the roof where the condenser is.
During the intense east bay summer heat, I thought I was going to get some relief. Nope. They come out and tell me that it isn't safe for the exact reason that I explained to them in the first place! Well, they should have told me that when I tried to schedule the service call. They showed no respect to my time.

Richard's did a great job replacing our two a/c and heating systems. Their price was very competitive. They were extremely professional, always on time, cleaned up after themselves, and explained what they were doing at all times. We're very happy with their work. Dan both scoped the project and then lead the installation. We would definitely use them again.

Our A/C compressor got fried with the power surge after this summer's lightning storm. We needed a new one, plus best practice to also get a new furnace (both well over 25 years old). We also wanted to get a new duct/floor vent installed. We got a good, fair price from Richard's for these new products and installations. The installation (2 days) went very smoothly. The technicians Anthony and Cole were excellent. Per current protocols, both wore masks. We could not be happier with the service!

We heard of Richards through a referral on Nextdoor. Our ac system was not working properly, so called and made an appointment. They were available the next day between one and three, and showed up at 2:30. They touched base to say that they were on the way. Bonus! We have an old ac system, and were afraid that we would be pressured into buying something we didn't want.
When the technician arrived he was personable & professional. He found the issue and addressed it and we felt that it was a fair price. It turned out we needed a new capacitor and motor. He didn't have the motor on hand, but checked with dispatching to see what his schedule was the next day and returned promptly with said motor. Again, after letting us know he was on the way. Kudos to Olim Toscano, the ac tech- a great employee!

My heating system stopped working in the first week of November when we had really cold temperatures. Based on almost 5-star rating on Yelp, I called Richardss. That was a big mistake. They really took advantage of my situation and ripped me off. The service man replaced the controller, the main board, and changed me $399 just for that part - the retail cost of the controller board is $120!
I asked him some questions and reluctantly agreed. At that point, may be he saw me as gullible and so decided to tack on some more loot. After replacing the main board, he did some testing and told me I needed a new transformer. The transformer costs only about $24 and he charged me $140 for that. What is interesting is that he already had the invoice with the transformer ready on his phone.
With the service fee of $120, I had a bill for $659 (see attachment). The parts prices I verified are for retail sale from parts store, and the HVAC companies, like the auto repair shops, get their parts for 20% - 30% off the retail price. SO, RICHARD'S 5-STAR RATING IS NOT NECESSARILY A SURE THING - BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU CALL THIS COMPANY. MAKE SURE THEY DO NOT CHARGE EXORBITANT PRICES OVER THE RETAIL COST BECAUSE YOU ARE HELPLESS. BEWARE OF RICHARD'S! (1-star because can't go lower)

I was so impressed with the prompt response time and professional service provided by this company and their technician Joe Black. If I have any further needs I will be using this company again. You get a text message when your technician is en route which is so helpful when dealing with windows of service time. Joe found my condo just fine, had already checked in with my HOA office and got the key to the roof, identified the problem promptly and had the part to make the repair. It was so quick and easy.

I've used Richards twice when I was having problems with my HVAC system. Both times I thought it would be a very expensive repair or replacement of the entire system. Both times They quickly diagnosed the problem, showed me exactly what the problem was and fixed it at a reasonable cost. Joe was very friendly and professional. Great customer service!

Joe came to fix my air conditioner today. He was on time, polite and replaced a part without trying to up sell me on things I didn't need. He also replaced my air filter for me (I had a new one in the garage) and told which ones to buy on Amazon at a much better price. Super helpful, kind and courteous! Will definitely recommend Rich's to my friends and family.

Joe is the man. Had an issue with my A/C and contacted Richards (after being told by another company my whole system needed to be replaced at a cost of $20,000). First the receptionist on the phone was extremely friendly. She told their call rate and let me know someone could be out the same day after 2pm(mind you this was around 11am). she set the appointment and told me the tech would text me about 20 minutes before arrival.
I received the text around 3:30 telling me Joe Black was on his way. Joe arrives and is extremely friendly and respectful considering the covid-19 concerns we face today. Joe makes his first checks and finds the previous tech didn't reinstall the capacitor they thought was bad. Joe installs a new one and makes a few more checks. At the end of the day Joe found one of the main compressor fuses is bad. 1 capacitor which the other company stole and 1 fuse(probably the real problem) a small $300 bill and my A/C is back up and running. Thank you again Joe

We've used Richard's a few times over the years, always with good results. This time repairman Joe Black managed to save a 38 year old furnace by replacing a burned out fan control board. This furnace gets low usage, so although it is well past its expected life, we wanted to avoid the cost of replacement. Instead of paying for a new furnace we paid for the control board and a very quick installation.
Their response to my call was next-day and the repair with the replacement part, the day after that. Joe wore a mask (Corona virus protection) and was friendly and efficient. Great job!

This is the most principled review I've ever written. It's based on a 4 year timeline of experience with this company. Richard's Heating and Air Repair does not stand by their work. The quality of work is sloppy. Their customer service is close to non-existent when it matters: when there's an issue with the job you paid them to do.
The basic story is this: - 4 years ago our compressor blew out. We called Richards based on reviews. They suggested a whole new condenser (the big metal box in the back yard) not just the compressor (the motor in the middle of the metal box). They said specifically, "it would be a more reliable fix this way." With a 5 year warranty as well. It was approximately $5,500 to fix this in this way but worth it, apparently, based on their expert advice. Note: On the original installation: I noticed Richard's Heating and Air left all the cables into the new compressor looking worse than the way they found it.
It wasn't like I got a new system all brought up to spec by hiring these pros. Nope. The box was new but the interconnections to the house were tattered and weathered (from the fact they were old). They didn't bother to put new wrapping around this sensitive part of the system. Or take pride in the way A/C installations looked at the customer's house. Did they expect I would wrap it nicely myself?
Or wouldn't care? Or that it might not make some difference in cooling efficiency or reliability of the unit they just installed? - Well guess what? 11months after that installation the compressor blew out again! They said the part was under warranty but the labor was not! I suggested they should cover labor since it was clearly too soon for this to happen and the system we have was based on THEIR suggestion.
It was about 1400 in labor. Eventually after much back and forth Richard agreed to a reduced fee. I seem to recall I paid 1/2 to 2/3 of that price. - 6 months ago - or just about 4 years after installation. The compressor blew out again! I called them to complain that their installation has failed again and they called back and told me that the compressor or condenser were no longer warrantied, because the replacement part was just 1 year warranty!
So my 5 year warranty was only good for that original fix and then it basically went away. Note: Clearly there may be something wrong with my system that it kills compressors regularly. But that is something experienced technicians should be able to spot and handle. And more importantly, I think Richard's Heating and Air would care that a system they installed has failed 2 times in 4 years and they might want to make it right with the customer they sold it to.
For business sake. Let alone just karma's sake. So, my air conditioner is still broken and I need to again pay to fix the thing I originally paid them to fix. This is a $5 - 7K repair at this point. So, I am approaching a $12K outlay to fix just a part of my A/C in under 5 years of operating time. I called Richard's to simply make any kind of an offer to share the responsibility to correct the issue.
I even told them I am holding off writing a review to give them time to work with me. After an initial call back message to let me know their work nor the part they installed were under warranty, and then 1 extended conversation with their desk person who made it clear this wasn't her call to make and that she be sure to tell Richard all about it and he'd call me back. Well, he didn't.
I wanted the issue corrected so I even made one last call and left a message. Richard never returned my calls. That was long, but so is my experience with these guys. I figured if I'm going to tell you that Richard's Heating and Air Conditioning really really sucks to work with, I should give you my 4 years and multiple interactions with them as evidence. And then you can see it's not some fluke bad experience it's actually their company's brand of experience: consumer pain.

Very good experience. I recently had the blower motor go out on my HVAC system. The system is less than five years old and stopped circulating the air through the house. I called Richard's Heating and Air Repair and they had a tech at my house within an hour or so. The technician was very polite and efficient. He spent about 45 minutes testing the motor in the hopes that it would be a simple fix.
Unfortunately he confirmed that the motor had indeed failed and would have to be replaced. Fortunately, since the unit was less than 10 years old the motor was still under warranty and I only had to pay for labor. He came back two days later after getting a replacement. It only took an hour or so to install. I was happy to get a new HVAC motor with my checkbook being relatively unscathed. Their timeliness, efficiency, and good customer service is appreciated.

My wife and I just had the best possible experience with Richard's Heating and Air. Another company performed a service call on our air conditioner, after which it developed a leak in the condensate drain system. After two unsuccessful service calls the previous company proposed that we purchase an entirely new interior unit. At this point we called Richard's.
Their very professional technician, Sean came out, diagnosed the problem and confirmed that a new interior unit was unnecessary. Lisa and Caitlin in the office wrote up a very fair estimate and Olim, who is very nice and professional, came out and fixed our condensate problem. The price was less than a third of the cost for a new interior unit! Thank you to everyone at Richard's Heating and Air. You were there for us when we needed you.

Sean was great! He diagnosed the issue and thoroughly explained what was going on. Despite the age of my system (24 years old), Sean was able to fix the issue swiftly. He also gave me tips on a longer term system for down the road, as needs arise. Overall pleasant experience dealing with scheduling and onsite service. Thanks very much!

Customer service is horrible. I live in an apartment complex and our ac has been out for two weeks in 90 degree weather and we have been trying to get it fixed One day they were supposed to come in and we were expecting them all day and they never came in so we asked our manager why they hadn't come in and they said that they had knocked on the door and we didn't answer when in reality we never heard the knock and we were always in the living room because that was where our fan was on and that's how we kept cool so the manager rescheduled and finally they came in only to find out that we had to replace our ac entirely so we asked when would it be fixed and the man said that they would have to order it so he didn't know when it would be officially fixed.
A few days past and we asked our manager when they would fix her AC and she said "didn't they already fix it" and we said no, they told us that they had to replace the entire unit, to which she responded "oh they never told me that" so she rescheduled it again today and I was here all day by myself and in these apartments we have thin walls in my room I can hear just about anything that goes on in the kitchen and even if the door knocks and again we never heard a knock and I open the door because I heard my doordasher knock to deliver my food and a card fell(the company card) and I called myself to see if I could reschedule and they lady who answered was rude

They will charge you an extra 5% to use a credit card and mail a second invoice with an additional $118 "service charge" after you've already signed final invoice and paid for service and parts. I understand a service charge if we decided not to go forward, but we had them complete the service, signed the invoice upon completion (invoice already included an $83 service charge) and paid full amount on the invoice by check (as we didn't want to be assessed an extra 5%).
How is it possible to be charged for two service charges on a single repair and how did these guys get all of these positive reviews? Ridiculous! I've dealt with lots of vendors and contractors and never experienced this before. Do not trust their office as they will give you the run around and will not offer to resolve but insist that you pay the second invoice.
Also technician will change the quoted price on the final invoice if they need to come back to finish the job. Don't trust this company at all as they are dIshonest and unethical. Look elsewhere and go with another company!

Alex (the service manager at Richards) came to my house to troubleshoot my A/C. The compressor was shutting off in hot weather. He said that I needed to replace the compressor or install a new condenser unit and that either would remedy the problem. He replaced the compressor and charged us $1200. It did not fix the problem. Before he left my house, I asked what to do if I had a problem.
He said that I wouldn't because condensers last 10 years. When I called him back in to re-diagnose, he said that I would have to spray the coils with water whenever the compressor shuts off. Alex from Richards HVAC misdiagnosed the problem, charged me $1200 and left me in exactly the same spot I was to begin with. I understand that mistakes happen when diagnosing complicated HVAC systems, but the expense should be the business owner, not the customer.

I called to see if I could schedule an appointment for maintenance and inspection. I left a message with the office and Richard called me back within 15 minutes. He was helpful and got me scheduled quickly. I had made many phone calls to other service providers, he was the most prompt and helpful. Many still haven't called me back even hours later.

This guy is AMAZING! It was going on midnight and no one was returning my calls. The twist is I am here on the east coast, just outside of Baltimore. I was terrified I've never heard any sounds like that in the 5 years i've lived in this apartment. I know nothing about furnaces, I mean NOTHING. I was soo scared, was this a fire hazard? was it leaking something poisionous?
The thought came to me "it's only 8:30pm on the west coast", Is there a chance a repair person in that nice state of California would be kind and listen to the noice from over the phone? I realized whoever I called might just hung up on me. Afterall, obviously I would not be resulting in a visit/sale, but I felt desperate. I randmoly pulled up google and saw Richard's Heating & Air repair, I thought this sounded like a company that would be big enough to know a lot and small enough to care.
And I was right! Richard so generously took my call and expertly assessed my situation. He did seem intrigued by my cross country call, but he was not detered in the least to help me if he could. He must know these machines inside and out becasue even when I decribed things by calling them 'shoebox looking' or 'wiggly wire', he knew exactly what I was trying to decribe and then he'd lead me to the next wire or gadget to work on fixing the problem.
He walked me through everything, my hands were shaking, but I could tell Richard was too good to fail! He was my hero! A man who really knows his craft! We got to the bottom of the problem. It was not an emergancy yay. I will need to call a local repair service in the morning. You guys in California are so blessed to have this guy to fix your stuff! Richard, .If your business ever wants to relocate to Maryland I will recommend you to all my friends and family! YOU A THE BEST! Thank you so much! Staci M. Glen Burnie Md.
