Cates Heating and Cooling

The diagnosis of my AC unit went well, however they charged outrages amount to replace capacitor on the unit. The part cost less than $50 and I got charged $250. Very disappointed that they sacrifice their reputation for short term profit. I would never recommend them in the future services.

Very disappointed. We bought a new furnace and AC from Cates in June 2017. Our AC's compressor exploded in early June 2022. Another company looked at it and said it was a problem with installation that caused this to happen. We contacted Cates to come take a look and give their opinion. At first, they said they had no record of us purchasing a whole new system from them. Thankfully I kept the paperwork and sent them a picture of it. Cates did not send a service technician to check it out, they simply said it wouldn't be covered under the 5 year warranty.

They said it was our fault because we couldn't provide maintenance records. They said the warranty expired in April when the unit came off the truck, instead of when it was installed at our house. After multiple phone calls that were left unanswered, they said they would repair the compressor for around $3,000. A new unit costs around $5,000. We ended up buying a whole new unit from a different company.

I'm very disappointed in the response we received from Cates, rather the lack thereof. It seemed as though they couldn't have cared less about helping us with a problem that was caused by them to begin with.

I have to update my review from 5 to 2 stars. I pay for a home warranty through Carefree Home Warranty which is handled by Cates. They upped the service charge from $70 to $85 due to gas price increases without notifying me. Then, when I finally needed to use the service I'd been paying for for 3 years, they try to tell me that I'm going to have to pay $1400 to stop a leak in the AC and also for the Freon required to refill it.

It specifically says that that is covered on the website. The tech went on to tell me that I can call Cates and speak to a manager but it won't do much good because it's not covered, I'll only get 15% off. He was dismissive, combative, and unhelpful, dare I say rude? As a frustrated home owner, I never thought I'd be treated this way by a company that I faithfully pay MONTHLY and barely ever use.

One call to the office and the service manager says "oh, I thought he said R-22, yeah it'll just be $85 today." Are you kidding me? So you scare me to death and can't even bother to get the question internally correct, and the customer has to handle it? Imagine if I had agreed to the $1400 charge and it was in fact covered! Absolutely STUNNED by this exchange and the lack of professionalism, integrity, and care for the client.

Truly never thought this would be how I'd be treated, but maybe I shouldn't be surprised after being hit on by the first tech (again, unprofessional, but I let it slide.) This, not so much.

Cate's came out and replaced our furnace the first day we moved into our new home last month. They were very flexible with timing as we initially planned for them to come out first thing in the morning, but learned we wouldn't have possession until later in the day so they came out later, and the job was done by the end of the day. The furnace has worked great since, and they even sent out a nice thank you gift to us, which was a lovely and totally unexpected surprise.

Semi-annual HVAC maintenance. Justin was on time and checked/cleaned furnace and humidifier and ran a thorough diagnostic check on my HVAC system. Love this company! Superior service! Came to save the day when ABMay could/would not honor the contract my mother paid for for years. She was left without heat for days. ABMay was apathetic and irritable.

Cates did a wonderful job with our new furnace and A/C installation. Dan was very professional and courteous, explaining our options and answering all of our questions. Cates went above and beyond to get our install done on short notice before family started arriving for Thanksgiving! The installers were great too! We highly recommend Cates!

Luke was the technician that provided the furnace service. I watched him about 8 feet behind and to one side to observe what he was doing, which I have done for about the last 22 years. I noticed Luke paid attention to the seemingly small details and I was impressed he did so. He found issues, and fixed the issues rather than waiting for a failure of that part of the system.

I have always thought the Cates technicians did a good job at my home, however Luke took care of several items that I don't believe others might have used their time to fix things that maybe might have waited until the next furnace tuneup. Thanks Luke and Cates for hiring an excellent technician!

Both Derrick & Vincent were on time, well organized & informative. Both were very hard workers. New Furnace needed adjustments to fit with old duct work. Derrick did an outstanding job with the needed modifications. They both kept us up-to -date with progress. After a long day, the project was completed with total satisfaction by the homeowners. Wow! Stephen is the best maintenance tech ever. He not only did all of my regular maintenance - he gave me an education on my humidifier operation as well as my dampers. The things I never knew! As a business professional that's responsible for providing a service, it's not often that I give a five stars. Usually enter some fraction. My aged furnace gave up with a motor issue. I called Cates service team on weekend and they responded immediately and sent out a technician. Unfortunately my part due to backlog and availability would take awhile to source and cost me a pretty penny.

I instead asked about replacing as the unit would inevitably continue in downward spiral. The sales team was out, provided many options, and ultimately decided to replace the unit. Due to the anticipation of higher costs of gas, parts, and repairs I did a combo that replaced my air conditioner as well. I was so impressed with the installation, efficiency, and thoroughness of the crew that I write this review. It's not often you move so fluently through service, to sales, and to installation teams. Nicely done and big thank you to all the Cates team.

After losing AC late Monday afternoon, Cate's had a repair technician (Dan) out the next morning. Dan clearly explained the core issue (corroded circuit board) and his observations, provided a repair quote, and explained the pros/cons of installing a new system. Dan also implemented a short term fix so that we'd have AC through some 90 degree weather.

After receiving several well-explained options for a new furnace/AC system, we made a selection Thursday - and installation began Friday morning. The installation team (Dillon and Scott) arrived at 8 am sharp. They resolved several unexpected system issues professionally and quickly and communicated well throughout the day. One stubborn issue with the existing damper system kept them working until 7:30 pm on a Friday - they ensured we had a fully functional system for the weekend and they were back out 8 am Monday to resolve the remaining problems.

Our full process from first call to final install was less than a week and we were very happy with the quality of service at every stage. We would recommend Cate's to anyone.

Fair prices and professionable and knowledgeable service staff. Have had them for 16 years and have always been happy with them.

Pem from Cates was extremely easy to work with and found exactly the solution we needed. We got a new furnace and a/c unit from Carrier and are very pleased with the whole process. Cates came in with a better price, better quality product, and fantastic financing compared to another large firm in the KC area that also gave us a bid. I would definitely recommend them to my friends. Also, Scott and Dillon installed the whole system in less than a day and finished exactly when they said they would.

Chuck and his aide worked on a variety of items we had from our new house inspection. Impressive that the same guy that gave me the quote came and did the work. The young man that did the AC check was very courteous and explained to me everything he had worked on. Chuck even did an adder when our new refrigerator was delivered and we needed a tie in for a new water line.didn't bother him a bit. I'll recommend these guys for anyone looking for work of this type in the future

Poor work product, lack of transparency in pricing, no interest in making things right, just looking to make their next buck. Lots of better options out there.

Extremely prompt and professional service in a difficult situation. They did everything possible to meet our expectations. Technicians were all polite and respectful.

Cates replaced our AC and furnace units today. They provided excellent customer service; from Greg Schmidt who is the Director of Commercial Services who provided the various options to us, to Dylan and Cody who installed our units. they were great. They worked a long day and were so polite and pleasant throughout the whole process. We highly recommend Cates Heating and Cooling.

Fantastic, Honest Service! Cates will be our go to for all future HVAC business. We are beyond thrilled that we found Cates! We were shocked with disappointment after being told by a different company that we "should" replace our entire system for $9k, but to get our AC working again, we needed to replace the AC compressor for $4k. Enter Cates: We had called Cates to get an estimate for a new condenser unit and/or system.

The man who answered the phone reassured us that they were interested in helping us make the best decision for our needs. This was already feeling much different than the first company we called. Cates estimator was not only able to diagnose the actual problem with our condenser (something the other company "overlooked"), but he FIXED the issue (photo of problem) and inspected the rest of our HVAC, in under 1 1/2 hours and for under $100!

I'm a first time customer and couldn't be happier! I called for an appointment and less than 2 hours later my furnace was repaired. The technician, Mark, was super friendly, triple checked everything, and took the time to explain things to me. I highly recommend Cates Heating & Cooling.

He had a busy schedule, but took time to get a new thermostat installed on a day that was cold and I would need to control the heating temperature. Had our semi-annual inspection today and as usual the service was professional and detailed. Based upon service and their professional technicians we plan on maintaining our service contract for the future.

Tried Cates after 10+ years with another service company (maintenance and service, to include Spring and Fall tune-ups). The appointment was scheduled quickly and professionally and the service was performed today by Nathan. His thoroughness and attention to detail was impressive. A great first experience!

Cates heating and cooling is by far the best! They came out and showed me what was wrong, we ordered what was needed, within hours my furnace and air conditioner were installed and working well. What puts them over the top is the simple fact they called the next day to make sure everything was going well. Very polite staff and friendly. I recommend them to any one.

I came home from work on a 90 degree day to find my AC had quit working. Called Cates and they worked me in that very evening! Very friendly workman , who was truly a lifesaver! I couldn't be happier with the fast and friendly service.
