HomeWiz Boston 5 Star Review by Erica M.
My heat went out this winter and Homewiz was the only service that offered to come out that day. It was extremely easy to set up an appointment over the phone, and my request was responded to immediately. I find this pretty rare for home services in the Boston area - guys I've spoken with in the past have just seemed to work from their cell phones, so this was a refreshing change of pace. Howard and Dan came out to my place. They were done within a few hours and were professional throughout the entire process. I'd hire them again any day.
See what makes HomeWiz the leading choice for electricians or hvac in the Boston area!
Whether you need same day service or rates up front our staff will give you the satisfaction and peace of mind you need!

You can tell that HomeWiz really cares about their clients’ needs! The communication we had with Dan throughout the process of having some heating system repairs done was efficient and professional. We will no doubt use their services again in the future and will recommend them to family and friends.

I called Homewiz to fix 4 outlets in a room where they had stopped working. I was charged $462 before they even showed up to do the work (Red flag #1). One additional outlet was faulty that I asked Howard to look at. He said it would cost another $462. For ONE singular outlet. When I said I had to talk to my husband who wasn't home at the time, he suggested I call now since they're so busy.
I called, he didn't pick up, so I made the decision to pay since I figured it would be a big job given the price. It was done in under 20 minutes, and he wouldn't do the work without charging me first. Ultimately, I felt pressured into it. I paid $924 for less than an hours worth of work. I feel like we were a bit ripped off. They got the job done, but I will not call them again.

HomeWiz was able to fix our antiquated buzzer system in our 3 family home. Dan was very knowledgeable on the phone about why it is difficult to repair the old systems and what to expect in terms of cost and options if they were unable to repair it. Dan and his colleague arrived on time to the appointment and efficiently found the problem. They were able to get our system up to 90% working, which we all were happy with. They laid out options for future upgrades but without pressure. We will definitely use them again in the future! Highly recommend.

HomeWiz installed our new Mitsubishi Heat Pump. We are now off oil and our saving a ton of money. They helped us with the rebate as well. The whole job was effortless by them. They showed up as promised and did a great job for us. My husband and I are thrilled with the company. Call HomeWiz if you want a great job. Service: Repair HVAC

I hired Home Wiz to install my new thermostat after trying to hire others to do the same. The 2 other electricians had no clue about heating controls. As a result, I had no heat for 3 days after. Home Wiz knew exactly how to do it and restored my heat. My husband is thrilled as this is something I had tried to accomplish on my own with little success until Home Wiz came.
Thank again. Easy to schedule, price seemed average compared to the other contractors which were disastrous. Thanks Home Wiz, I will call again. I understand you do electrical, heating, and cooling?

This company is great. I don't know what the last reviewer is talking about. I called them last Tues. to install a new car charger for my new electric car that I bought. The charger was installed Wed., the day after I called. They charged me $359 for the whole job. Needless to say, I bought the charger. I would highly recommend and take with a grain of salt what the previous reviewer stated. There are a lot of nuts out there.

We hired HomeWiz to install & configure a home automation system. The staff reviewed our house layout, understood our user requirements, and suggested solutions that fit our needs/budget. The home automation system provides a convenient, worry-free solution for monitoring our home since we are frequently away or out of state. We had a recent issue with our heating system while we were out of state, and the Home Wiz automation system triggered the temperature alarm, which prompted us to take action.
The proactive monitoring, along with Home Wiz's prompt response, prevented our pipes from freezing and eliminated a significant event from occurring in my home. I highly recommend Home Wiz for installation, monitoring, and repairs of your home's critical system.

We called because our heat wasn't working upstairs. Dan called back quickly and explained that they were booked until the new year. He recommended we call Peter Needham HVAC, and they were able to come the same day. Dan was so helpful in describing what we could expect and offered to advise us about heating systems down the road. We really appreciate Dan's expertise, patience, and honesty. Thank you, Dan!

I reached out to HomeWiz through Yelp after receiving some findings from a home inspection for a condo. Dan called me the next morning about my initial inquiry about knob and tube wiring. I called back a few minutes later to ask about a second issue identified by the home inspector relating to a potentially dangerous/deadly HVAC issue. Though HomeWiz is booked solid in my area and unable to help me immediately, Dan took the time to listen as I described the situation and gave me very helpful and valuable information to take back to my real estate agent.
In addition to that, Dan offered to explain any findings I may receive from other electrical and HVAC contractors. It makes sense that HomeWiz is in high demand! If the sale of this property goes through, I have HomeWiz bookmarked for future business based on responsiveness, generosity with time and professional opinion alone! Thank you, again.

HOME WIZ/ H.O. ELECTRIC I called Home Wiz/ H.O. Electric for 2 work items: 1) To install a Nest thermostat that I had purchased from MassSave and 2) To install a replacement Basement Watchdog Standby Battery that I had purchased from Lowe's They tried to pressure me to buy and install a new home automation system that I did not need. They were annoyed that I had purchased both the battery and acid, and the Nest thermostat and repeatedly said that they were not responsible for "customer supplied materials".
Before the work started, Howard demanded payment in advance of $1264 ($799 to install the Nest thermostat which I supplied. and $465 to hook up the sump pump replacement batter, which I also supplied). He put through the charge before the work was even started, even though on the invoice (which I had to request twice, and received one week after the work was done), it states "ACCEPTANCE OF WORK PERFORMED: I acknowledge upon payment, satisfactory completion of the above described work and the premises has been left in satisfactory condition." I was not shown those terms when he handed me his smart phone, to sign what I believed was an authorization on my credit card.
This is a deceptive practice, and I have never heard of any repairman who insists on full payment before starting the work. They installed new wiring for the Nest thermostat. When they left, the heat was not working. I called them and they came back a 2nd time and told me that the thermostat needed more of a charge, and to continue charging it for an hour and stick it back on the wall, and they left.
I let the thermostat charge for over an hour, then stuck it on the wall- and I then had no heat at all, in any zones. They returned immediately for a 3rd visit and discovered that a fuse blew on the main heating panel, and they replaced the fuse and I was back in business. As for the Basement Watchdog Standby Battery, there is a fluid sensor that needs to be purchased and replaced when a new battery is installed. Again, Howard blamed me for not having the part - and told me I could hire him for another visit once the part came in.
When the part came in, I called and they would only come back to install it if I wrote a good review. The job was not yet finished, and the battery alarm was still going off, so I refused. They had also placed a sign in my yard- which I had allowed in good faith, and then promptly removed. They also had the nerve to tell me they were offended that I didn't give them $20 for lunch when they came to the house (after paying them $1264!).
He attempted to pressure me to write a review, which was very unprofessional. I have never had a home professional do work in my house and not provide a receipt promptly. I had to ask twice for a receipt for the work that cost me $1264. My experience is consistent with what I read in other reviews, which I wish I had paid more attention to before contacting them.
Very disappointing, as they are a local business that is 1 mile from my home. Buyer beware: Anyone thinking of hiring this company should read all reviews. I would not recommend Home Wiz/ H.O. Electric as they were arrogant, condescending, insulting, unprofessional and deceptive, and exorbitantly expensive. Note: the experience was so traumatizing and upsetting to me that I wrote up my experience, and did not look at it for 18 months or so. However, I feel that my experience should be documented- in the hope that I can save someone else from being taken advantage of.

I had a couple questions about ceiling fan capacitors and Dan really helped me out and coached me through what would be the wisest and cheapest course of action, initially I was looking to repair my 10 year old fans but Dan helped me realize it was probably much cheaper and easier to get a couple new ones. Thanks Dan, yall will be the first one I call if I run into any other problems.

This was honestly the worst customer experience I've had in over a decade. I called Homewiz because I had a dishwasher that would not power on. If you still decide to contact them, do NOT pay these people up front. I foolishly paid $462 for a diagnostic and after less than 12 minutes, Howard concluded I had been hit by a power surge and my dishwasher needed to be replaced.
He said it was either lightning or a solar surge and all the computer chips were fried. He then began looking up dishwashers on his phone to order. No details were provided on what drove him to this conclusion or what tests he ran. I'm suspecting he just saw an older dishwasher and assumed it needed replacing without actually figuring out the problem.
At that point I asked him to leave and called the main Homewiz line to complain. I spoke with a person Dan who was extremely rude and belligerent. Even though my older Maytag dishwasher doesn't even have computer chips, he still tried to justify the diagnosis because power surges are a common thing. Fast forward a few weeks, I had to call an electrician again because after replacing the dishwasher it would not power on.
I hired another team and they were quickly able to find and fix an issue with the outlet connecting the dishwasher. They also fixed my attic lights, a broken outdoor sensor and installed a garbage disposal switch. All of the this for a reasonable price of $527. This included parts and labor and I was only made to pay AFTER the quality job was done. Please be aware Homewiz is just a rebrand of H.O. Services. If I had known about all the horrible reviews I never would have called. Don't make the same mistake.

Old spaghetti wires and multiple still connected comcast boxes threatened to take us and the whole neighborhood offline during the pandemic (and a snow storm!). Comcast told us we had to rewire our antique house which would have cost a fortune. Master Electrician Howard came and removed the complex scrambled wires, reconnected the system, and got us running. Dan suggested multiple ways to save money on the system which we will pursue. We were saved a complex and costly rewiring job. Not the least expensive outfit but paying for Master Electricians is often the way to go.

These guys are awesome! I would definitely would recommend them to any close friend of mine. Very responsive, professional and have a longterm vision to when they repair or give service to your unit's equipment. I have worked with them for over 3 years now and would not move to other provider. Honestly it is well invested money. Dan and his Dad have founded their business (25+ year) with a mindset of customer service and quality in what they do. Honest and hard workers!

HomeWiz just saved us from a brutal summer of heat! After a different HVAC company couldn't figure out what was wrong with our central air and recommended an expensive replacement, we decided to get a second opinion from HomeWiz. HomeWiz came by very quickly, did a thorough diagnostic, and determined that it just needed a switch replaced and a coolant charge.
They even took the time to educate me on my whole system (and were kind enough to use simple words so I could follow along, they really wanted me to understand and not just be impressed that they understand)! With all the money we saved not replacing our system, we were able to install an attic fan to make our home more efficient. They were very thorough and professional with excellent communication and really got to know and respond to our needs and concerns.
They were also very conscientious about being in our home during the pandemic and wore respirators and maintained appropriate distance. We will definitely be using them again!

I have a new experience with Howard Oven! I got another letter from the same attorney with threatening language asking me to contact him. He assured me in the letter that he really was an attorney. Do real attorneys have to do that? He also asked me to call him. Funny, last time I called his number, someone who sounded exactly like Howard Oven picked up. Sadly, I know Howard's voice very well because of all the harassing phone calls he made to me.
If you read "not recommended" reviews here or on his "H.O. Services" profile, you will see that this is his normal m.o. What Howard does not seem to have grasped is that if you do not want bad reviews, you should not treat your customers badly. He also seems unaware of the fact that there is nothing wrong in writing bad things about a company if those things are true.

I called HomeWiz a few days ago because something was going on with my heater. I had another AC company come out the day before and they supposedly found 3 different problems. I didn't feel right about the quote so I decided to have these guys come out for a second option. Turns out the thermostat was loose on te wall and the contacts in the back were intermittent so sometimes it worked when I changed the temp and other times it didn't. Simple fix! Thankfully I had HomeWiz look at it. I'll be using them from now on. They're honest, respectful, and the price for the simple repair was fair.

My heat went out on a cold day a while back, Howard and Dan came out immediately and fixed the problem. And then, when my heat was working intermittently a few months later, they were easy to reach and came out to my house the very next day. What a pleasant surprise when they worked around my schedule rather than force me to work around their! I have been nothing but pleased with the quality of the guys at Homewiz for their reliability and professionalism.

We needed work done and were having trouble getting anyone to show up. Dan and Howard were the only electricians who actually came to quote the job and had availability nearly immediately. They're genuinely decent guys and like what they do. They may not be for everyone but that's fine. They're really not the cheapest option but they did the work in a time frame that made sense for me.
I can never get electricians to follow through on their quotes so this was huge to me. We didn't want to spend weeks coordinating and appreciated they could fit our job in in under 2 weeks. My only complaint is that they put Home Whiz stickers everywhere they went. on my electrical box and heating system. When you're paying for a job in the $$$$ range, a little bit of tact is appreciated. You obviously got my business. don't push it.

I explained the situation to Dan and he walked me through resetting the fuse box including main switch and it worked. Please give Dan a promotion and a raise!

Great company! I was looking into Nest thermostats and who installs them in Brookline and stumbled across this company. They came out and determined that I did not have a common wire to power Nest. They gave me a price to run new wires but also other thermostats that would work with my current system. I now can control my thermostat, lights and window shades all from my phone! Super slick! Their team is incredibly professional, I had an issue with one of the shades 2 weeks after and they sent a tech out that day to make it right under warranty!

Cost: 5.0 of 5.0 Service: 5.0 of 5.0 You get what you pay for! Sure there may be other competitiors out there with lower cost, but be rest assured that their detailed analysis will put your mind at ease. I have used HomeWiz for a variety of services for several years now. Their plans are right online and easy to choose from. The technicians are friendly and thorough and clearly communicate which services may need more immediate attention than others. Overall, I would highly recommend them!

During the recent (dangerously) cold spell, my heat went out. It could've been a disaster, but I called up HomeWiz and they came out to my home the same day. Scheduling was easy and the two hour windows they provided were more convenient than most handymen I've dealt with. I'm not a handy person by any means, so Howard and Dan were kind enough to explain what went wrong and what my options were.
I appreciated them taking the time to walk me through it -- it's something that you don't usually expect from HVAC technicians. They were patient and reasonable throughout the process. Thanks to them, my heat was restored as quickly as it could've been. I was pleasantly surprised by their transparency and professionalism, and would definitely hire them again if I ever have an issue with my home.

Had H.A. English do a new boiler in my house and had Homewiz do the electrical connections. Install looks great, and it has been running perfectly throughout this extremely cold winter. I also had Joey and Stevie put in a 4-gang backbox and hook up a dimmer for a new set of lights while they were here. These days, quality work is hard to come by, so I'm glad I found this team. Next up. Air Conditioning. but I might have to wait until at least spring to think about that!

My lights were out in the kitchen. They charged me 880 dollars for under an hour of work. They told me that the problem was that the person I had hired was not a licensed electrician. BTW, I checked, there was no unlicensed work, it was all licensed. Anyway, they tripped the circuit, which got the lights back on, but they did not replace the lamp or give me an estimate for doing so.
They told me that they could install extra lights in my kitchen for "only" 3600 dollars and they could do it "right away". I told them I needed to think about it. Less than a week later, the same problem arises. I look at the lamp - it is clear that there is a problem with the lamp, and that must be the short that it causing the problem. I call and they tell me that the charge was for a diagnostic only.
After some back and forth on the phone, the technician contacts me back and tell me that I misunderstood him. He says that he will replace the lamp if get a new lamp. I tell him that is fair, I ask to repeat to confirm as the connection is poor. He then says that he does not want to do it, because I am mean. Then he says again that he will do the job.
Then he says he will not do it because we do not get along. The man on the phone was staggeringly rude. Unbelievably so. Really trying to intimidate me. I wish I had looked at Yelp and seen all the one stars. Truly disastrous. Stay away. This is highway robbery.

They are very focused on customer service. I love the fact when you call their main line you can quickly get access to a real person. They are all extremely nice, helpful, and expeditious in their assistance. My air conditioning unit abruptly stopped working, unable to get below 78 degrees in the middle of summer. They came out and ultimately fixed it.
It was expensive ($1,600), but I don't think it's an indictment on HomeWiz. its simply the cost of the parts, services, andexpertise required to fix my unit. Unfortunately, the unit stopped working again a few weeks later. Frustrated in all the money I spent, I called them up and request they come out. They informed me that "if it was anything to do with the work they did, they would fix it".
I wasn't sure exactly what that meant and I had a bad feeling they were going to say it wasn't their work that caused it to break again. Long story short, they ultimately DID fix it again at no additional charge from the $1,600 I had spent weeks earlier. I felt like they went above and beyond to fix it and so far its still in perfect working condition.
I would certainly recommend them. My only advice would be to educate yourself on HVAC's a bit and take notes when they come and do things. We didn't really document what work was done the first time. I'd recommend that HomeWiz provide the customer with an invoice of pricing and the work done for any jobs that cost over a couple hundred bucks. The owner really cares about the business and ensuring satisfaction.
I was frustrated when it broke after they first fixed it, but they served me relatively quickly and again, didn't charge me the 2nd time for any work. Even tho they had to go out and get extra parts and took a couple hours.

Let's start with some objective truths. HVAC units are complicated and each one is unique. Not having air conditioning makes everyone grumpy in the midst of summer. So although the overall experience has been a little frustrating, I believe these guys know what they are doing and they are dedicated to their customer service. My AC stopped working.
The air coming out was no longer cool. They came on-site and were here for a couple hours. After multiple discussions, I ended up deciding on the more expensive, long term solution, spending over $1,600 to get it fixed. Unfortunately, it didn't last very long and a week or 2 later warm air came out again. I'm not HVAC expert, so I can't say for sure if they didn't do the best work or if there are simply variables outside of their control.
Whenever someone is fixing an HVAC unit that they did not build out, there are going to be challenges. Naturally, I call them up and explain. They were quite kind and considerate, agreeing to send someone out next available time to check it out again. One of the technicians was the same guy as a few weeks ago (I'm working to find his name) and I said hello. Oddly, he had zero recollection of me or the issue, but it wasn't a big issue.
I do regret not taking notes, because I wasn't able to articulate the ins and outs of what we did last time. Maybe he just has some memory issues, but it did feel like they should have notes on properties where the customer spends a big chunk of change. Long story short. they have very good customer service in a difficult industry. Locally owned business, which are always best to support vs some large enterprise.
They hire very solid technicians with pretty good people/service skills. I think they went above and beyond to service me the 2nd time, because they had to get a couple new parts and it took them a couple hours but they didn't charge me a single extra dollar. I'm an objective reviewer of businesses and would recommend HomeWiz to others. I'd encourage you to take notes, do your research, and be prepared for the possibility of everything not going perfectly.
Their management called me directly to communicate the situation and I feel they are doing as good a job as possible to do, without completely ripping out the system and installing a new one.

They both seemed extremely knowledgeable when it comes to HVAC and more importantly, they walked me through the steps that they were taking. They listed all of my options for me, and helped me to figure out that I didn't want the cheapest or most expensive option. I chose to replace a bad part and give my system a tuneup whereas I had neglected doing so since my furnace was installed.
This was right in my price range and they gave me the price before picking up a tool so I knew exactly how much is would be at the end. They were done within a few hours and were professional throughout the entire process. I'd hire them again any day.

I had an emergency in the middle of December and HomeWiz was able to help me diagnose and ultimately replace my heating system within a few days. They were very thorough and even made sure I had some heating lamps for the one night I had to spend without heat (while waiting for parts in the morning). A very knowledgable team and would highly recommend their work.

H.O. Services is a top notch plumbing heating air conditioning, and electrical company serving metro west, north shore, south shore and Boston. I have work with them on countless occasions and will continue to do so. Very well organized technicians perform their work quietly and neatly. Always professional and courteous. Quote prices upfront for approval before the work begins. Service after the sale and install has been honored on many instances for me. I highly recommend them.

H.O. Services is there when you need them. I had some issues throughout my home after a storm with lots of wind came through and knocked out my power. Once the power was restored I found that my heating/ac system was not working along with many lights and plugs. The guys came to my home and did a thorough sweep. They informed me of all my options and gave me very clear explanations. Once the job was completed I was satisfied and highly recommend them to everyone.
