Our founder, Kermit B. Schulz, Sr. started the company as a small, two-person operation in 1946. Since that time, KBS has grown to be the premier residential HVAC company in eastern Massachusetts. From a small two-man operation based in South Natick in 1946, the company grew in reputation quickly, and moved to Dedham in 1948.
ABC is a national trade association representing merit shop contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers and related firms in the United States. ACCA is a non-profit association whose membership includes more than 60,000 professionals and 4,000 businesses in the indoor environment and energy services community.
We hire all positions for long term employment, not just "seasonal" help. The entire team is very professional and responsive. We have an older home and had an old HVAC (heat and AC) that needed to be replaced. The location and access to system was tricky. Chip and his team analyzed the situation, provided very competitive bid and replaced the system in a timely and efficient manner. They also installed new thermostats for all zones that will help us be more energy efficient. Highly reccommend them!

Kermit B Schulz & Sons are a truly professional company. We lost our HVAC system in the middle of winter and their service reps made it to our house within a hour of our call. When it was determined through a complete diagnostic that we needed a new system, heaters were brought to help us stay warm. Chip Schulz then came out to prepare an order for our new system.
He was very familiar with our system because he installed the originals when the condos were built. Chip explained everything he was doing, and took the time to help us fill out paperwork for rebates with MassSave, and gave us information to obtain financing with a local bank that works with MassSave. Chip did his best to expedite the delivery of our new system from the manufacturer, and when received the crew from Kermit B Schulz were out the next day.
All the necessary sub-contractors needed to finish job, had been scheduled previously and were right on time. Our entire HVAC system was removed and replaced expeditiously in about 7 hours. Kermit Schulz performed an outstanding job, cleaning up after themselves, and walking us through the correct operation. We are so glad that we dealt with Kermit B Schultz for our HVAC needs, and we were treated almost as family, and we have no concerns about their knowledge, professionalism, and social skills, that each and every team member who came to fix our problem, we felt went above and beyond to make their customers happy, and to assure us of a system that they 100% stand behind. Thank you Chip, Betty and all of their technicians.

Our temperamental 9 year old heating system went out for the first time in December of 2020. Our normal service technician took a look at our Slantfin and told us our heat exchange had cracked and we needed another system completely. It wasn't adding up so we reached out to a friend for a referral to another company. We contacted Kermit B Schulz and Sons to grab a second opinion.
Immediately we could tell the difference as they worked with us to identify our warranty options with Slantfin only to find that we were lied to and the system needed separate repairs. Multiple repairs, multiple trips, and a ton of effort by Brian and we were back up and running. This past January our heat went out again. This time, a totally separate set of error codes and right before temperatures were dropping into the single digits.
The day before the coldest day of the year, Mike from KBS found the part we needed in another part of the state, picked it up, and installed it that day. The most important thing you can have when your heat goes out in the winter is a company you can trust. That is KBS. Old school, family oriented, they go above and beyond to do right by their customers. Can't say enough good things about this company.

Kermit Schulz installed a new AC system for my 2nd floor. Dan responded to me fairly promptly but could only do his best with an estimate of when the work could be done due to the pandemic. The system was installed in November, too late to be tested, so they will hopefully come first thing in the spring to turn it on. The installers were prompt, polite and neat. I would use them again.

I had a new gas furnace, cooling coil and condensing unit installed. Sales was prompt and quick with their scheduling. Management updated me with the install timeline. The technicians were friendly and informative. The install went as scheduled. I am very happy with the installation. I have been a customer of KBS for many years and will continue to be a customer. I have been using Kermit Schulz for my residential HVAC maintenance for about 20 years. I recently had to replace my downstairs unit and they did an excellent job. The first year it wasn't used in master bedroom. As landlord I felt it was incumbent on me to have units tested before the hot season. I paid $328. for inspection and they assured me all was well. When heat came and tenant complained it was not working in upstairs bedroom so they had to sleep downstai She claimed it needed a part. According to her the part was resent a few times but always the wrong part.

I got the name A and J 978 590 7620. from other unhappy former customer of Schulz and they fixed it in one day. Way back before I knew KB, i used to use another company. One in my place of work, We had a very bad gas smell, my regular company found no issues and moved on, at this time, someone recommended KB, they came and fixed the issue right away. I fired the other company and have had contract with KB since then and have many work done, not only for my business but for my home as well.
Over the years, we have had our furnaces replaced and many other big jobs. CHIP is the owner and an amazing guy. Other than Chip, all the technician that come to my building are professional, friendly and get the job done. Betty is another nice lady in the office. Thank you!

We've used KBS for semi- annual maintenance for the last of couple years. We were recommended by a friend. The annual maintenance has been easy to schedule and their technician staff has been very professional and transparent with their work. KBS recently installed a new condenser and air handler to replace a 20 year old system. The technicians were great to work with, and very responsive and transparent just like their maintenance work.
We had one issue with scheduling, the technicians needed to come back to finalize one piece but we hadn't heard from the office staff to schedule a time so we ended up reaching out and the technician quickly came out that day. While we were waiting for the work to be completed the final invoice showed up in the mail, which felt a little off since the work was still incomplete.
All in all, we would still recommend KBS for a replacement or install and will use them again. They definitely have top notch and high quality technicians on their staff, so the servicing has been great!

March 2021 Our HVAC was installed over 20 years ago and in the last few years, we were dealing with sporadic loss of AC. in 2020, we contacted several HVAC companies for a replacement quote, knowing work wouldn't be done till the next year. K.B. Schultz came in the lowest with super quality materials (Trane). Once the deposit was received, the equipment was ordered (4 day turn around) and an installation appt was set up for following week.
Fast service! The Team of 4 arrived at 7:30 am and finished at 5:30 pm. I barely knew they were here. Polite. Professional. Took care of covering my hard wood floors to avoid damages. Installed additional wooden flooring boards in the attic, etc The system was humming beautifully at the end of the day. While I thought I needed AC mini splits to cool my home, the team from KBS scoped it in detail and clearly explained why they were not suitable. Not only that, they collaborated on what options would work best to use and expand my existing ductwork and quickly got back to me with a revised and cheaper estimate that saved space and installation. Kudos to the Kermits - that is why I use them!

I have done business with this company for over 45 years. They installed the duct work in our home, a furnace, and air conditioning unit. The air conditioner was still working when we replace it last week after 31 years. I believe it speaks to the quality of the AC unit and the skill of the technicians at Schulz who did yearly maintenance on it. All of our interaction with staff starting with Betty in the office to the technicians we have at our home have been very positive.
We needed a new furnace this month, and contacted Schulz & other businesses for a quote. Schulz gave us a better unit for less than their competitors. The same with the AC. They installed both the same day with no inconvenience to us. We are happy to continue doing business with them.

Realizing I needed a new heating system. I decided to look for a local company and found this company, Kermit B. Schulz & Sons of Millis. The rep came and checked out what I needed and decided on a TRANE high efficiency heating system. It was installed in one day and the area was cleaner than before. I now have plenty of heat and I also enjoy the rebate bonus that warms my wallet.

Horrendous on multiple levels. My wife has mold & dust mite allergies and we have a humid house (.New England.) so we finally decided on central air for humidity and filtering - for health, not convenience. Chip is imposing, presumptuous, pushy (reminds me of Trump). Anyway he sold us on an overpriced over-engineered system (he has the right approach for helth-conscious know-nothings), installed it improperly (see below), and they don't know how to maintain it.
They pushed a 2-zone system (upstairs/downstairs) but then said "heat rises" when we complained about problems. After we got the working thermostat (a year later) we found the only way it works is to always set both zones the same! Oops that was a wasted extra $10k that they certainly knew about (unless completely incompetent, a possibility) and decided to fleece us for it.
We spent the whole first year complaining about heat settings not working upstairs, and they spent the year telling us how the furnace computer is smarter than we are. After a year we happened to get a service guy with a clue, who saw in 5 minutes "Your upstairs thermostat is no good" and replaced it. (After a year of discomfort and wasted cooling and heating $!
Of course we complained about that but no response.) We switched companies after that - it seems Schulz has no interest or expertise in supporting the $y$tem$ that they $ell. After 6 years we discovered it appears the 2nd floor feed also feeds one 1st floor register that is only about 10 feet from the blower in the cellar. So ALMOST ALL the upstairs air BLOWS OUT THERE, freezing our feet and leaving the upstairs sweltering. Thanks for nothing, Schulz.

Saved the day! We had a terrible experience with another HVAC company. We wound up calling KBS to correct their work. Scott came over, was very polite and responsive. He never bad mouthed the other company either. He even wound up saving us time and money by being able to use the parts that were installed incorrectly the first time. The previous company told us they ordered the wrong parts and we'd have to wait for the new ones to come in. Overall, very happy with KBS. We're going to call them again for another job and we absolutely recommend them!

I have used KBS twice for my home, recommended them to two friends who used them and saw their extensive work at replacing my church's heating system. In all categories they were excellent, thorough, and offered several levels of choice in their systems and proposed work. There are many choices and a lot of technology in today's HVAC market and KBS has been a reliable and trustworthy guide for me. I just called them for a humidifier on my heating system as I trust their selection and installation.

I highly recommend the Schulz company. It's a family business that I've been doing business with for over 30 years. They installed the original HVAC system in our home when it was built and eventually a replacement, updated high efficiency system. I have complete confidence in them including Chip Schulz who helped me design the replacement system and his sister Betty who handles the scheduling and logistics for the company. They have also assembled a good team of skilled, customer oriented service technicians.

Update 9/9/2014: I got a nice call from them today explaining the bill had been coded incorrectly by a new tech so they're sending me a refund check for $138. That's enough to change my opinion of the price from "outrageous" to "fair." The quality and speed of work were good all along so correcting the price changed the whole experience into a good one. Original review 7/11/2014, one star: Outrageous markup on parts. Charged me $600 to replace a motor I could buy online for $100.

We needed a new heat pump about 4 years ago and Kermit B. Schulz was recommended to us by a neighbor. The heat pump we bought has used less energy and saved us on average of about $100 per month in electricity costs. Their installation was relatively quick and done so thoroughly. (We had other folks bid on the job and they did not inspect the copper tubing as carefully as Schulz did.) We have had our heat pump serviced twice a year and the technicians who call on us are prompt, courteous and thorough.
Whenever I call to make an appointment, Betty already knows who I am and it is like I have known them all for years. We have not had any problems in four years, so I don't know how they would be in an emergency -- which is why I restricted my rating to only 4 stars. But maybe not having any problems is proof enough.

I want to say thank you to this company who came to our rescue during this excruciating heat wave. We called a lot of companies around and no one was able to help. But Schulz & Sons send Rob right away. He came to our house at 10 pm on Friday night and gave us a diagnosis: the units' motor died. And the next day he came back and replaced it. It was our daughter's birthday that day and we were supposed to have 20 people over. If it wasn't for Rob, she wouldn't be able to have a party. I would highly recommend this company and Rob especially!
