Coan Oil is a team of comfort specialists who deliver advanced solutions for heating, cooling and indoor air quality. Our mission is to improve your year-round comfort, handle all your heating and cooling needs, and save you money through intelligent energy conservation and competitive pricing. Volatile energy prices are a major concern these days, so we offer an integrated approach that limits your costs. The high-efficiency equipment we install helps reduce your energy requirements so you can buy less oil and electricity.
Due to high prices and the volatility of the fuel market, Coan Heating & Cooling will be pushing enrollment for our Cap Price Protection program to later this summer. Hopefully by then fuel prices will have stabilized and we will be able to open up the program to you for the winter 2022-2023 season.
A: Coan considers a customer to have an emergency if their heat is not working during heating season or there is a severe oil or water leak. Before you call us for what you think might be an emergency, read our FAQ about "What do I do if there is no heat?" If you have an emergency, please call 800-262-6462.
When you think of a heating company, you might think "oil delivery, " but delivering fuel is just one of the services that homes and businesses need. Heating and cooling systems require regular preventive maintenance to operate reliably and efficiently and extend equipment life. Heating and cooling equipment also should be upgraded periodically to take advantage of advancements in energy-saving technology.

Excellent service and knowledgeable technicians. Over the last 30 years they've provided our oil, kept our old furnace in good repair, replaced and service a central a/c unit, replaced an oil tank, and installed a water heater. We've never been anything but happy with their service, pricing, and products.

Have been a customer for over 50 years. Coan has installed baseboard heat, a new heating system, a central AC system and a new oil tank. They deliver my oil and provide annual maintenance for my heating and AC systems. They are honest, professional and always on time. They also provide remote monitoring of my heating system while we are away, have a key to my office, and provide service while we are away if necessary. I recommend Coan Oil without any reservations!

I have been a COAN Oil customer since 1979. They have never missed a fill. When it gets to about 1/4 tank, they are there automatically. If I ever have to call, they are always responsive quickly, friendly and professiional. I'm on a yearly contract and they come every May to keep my heating equipment in tip-top shape. I highly recommend them!

We have been long time customers of Coan Oil and always been happy with their commitment to keeping war in the winter and cool in the summer. We have received timely oil deliveries and enjoyed excellent service calls. With that said, we recently received notification that because we do not use a minimum amount of oil, we would no longer receive automatic deliveries and we still do not know what the status of a service contract will be. Needless to say, we are concerned about our relationship with Coan for the winter of 2022-2023.

We have had Coan Oil for more than forty years and they have been wonderful. Friendly staff, competitive pricing, excellent emergency service (including the time my oil- fired hot water heater burst on Christmas morning and had to be replaced so my guests could shower!). They have veteran technicians who do their tune-up and home visits. It's a family operation that treats you like extended family.

I have used Coan for oil delivery, and service, installation and maintenance of my heating and air conditioning systems for nearly 40 years. Their services have always been timely, through and highly professional. All personnel have been highly competent, knowledgeable and courteous. I would highly recommend Coan to anyone.

We have been a customer of Coan Oil since we bought our home in 1968. Obviously we have been very pleased with their service. We have automatic oil delivery so we never have to worry about running low. We always lock in a certain amount of gallons per year so we save money if oil prices rise. We use their service plan so when anything goes wrong with our furnace, we have never had to pay for them to come and check it out, unless we need a major part.
They are prompt and their service techs are friendly and efficient. We live in a slab house with radiant heat and a few years ago, we had a major leak in the pipes in the floor. Luckily, the water went into the ground so we didn't have a flood in the house. Their team came out to discuss our options for replacing our heating system and we decided to go with the hydro air.
They suggested air conditioning to be done at the same time because it would be less expensive to install when they put in the new heating system. We went for that and they came right away, installed everything perfectly and we have been very happy with it. Coan oil has been a great company to have for our peace of mind.

First time home owner here. Husband out of town on work. Furnace starts making what sound like a drum solo at a rock concert type noise. I made my first service call to Coan and from that moment on they were friendly and courteous. They set me up for an emergency call the next day. Me having to work, they were able to call me 15 min prior/ when the tech was on his way.
Also called asking for a smaller time frame. Which I wasn't surprised when they said they could not. I get a call back from the very friendly employee. He states I'm the next on the list. I was shocked! What service. My problem was fixed. I'm one happy customer. Thanks again!

The WORST company. All the employees here work with each other to talk and gang up on you. If you're disappointed, frustrated or have a complaint, you don't matter. They lie and literally make up stories and do not let you talk to the owner or people you request to speak with. They post on their website that the customer is the most important person, but trust me when I tell you, they do not value or respect their customers. If you order oil and have nothing bad to say, they're fine, but as soon as you're unhappy with something, they're horrendous.

Wow. I needed a new fuel tank in a difficult spot, and the team at Coan, were shockingly good. They took care of all the issues, figured it out, had a solution ready to go, and then they got it all done. They even helped us setting up for us to use renewable biofuels to reduce global warming. I can't say enough good about these people. Truly worry free heat.

Been a customer for years. If you don't need anything they are good but once something happens service declines. My hot water tank failed in the middle of The winter. Called Coan to replace it. The had to send me a proposal before doing anything. Six weeks yes six weeks later the proposal arrives. That means I had no hot water for all that time plus however long it would take to get an appointment.
Of course I called another company and was replaced the next day it was winter and I had no hot water but Coan didn't think that was a concern. Want oil tank replaced here we go again with mailing a proposal it's been 3 weeks and again already replaced by another company. Think it is time to take my business elsewhere.

Had a horrible experience. Called in March when I bought a house they took all my information the last the paperwork. Reading the oil has not been filled I called back and they said I can't have an automatic fill and they quoted wrong prices. Terrible customer service clearly they don't want me as a customer.

Very poor customer service ALL AROUND. I called the 24 hr service line as I had no heat, I asked the dispatcher his name which he was hesitant to tell me, then I asked what tech was on call as it was late at night and I wanted to know if I knew which person would be arriving to my house, he said to me and I quote "Why do you need to know?" "I'm just asking you ma'm, does it matter?" He would not tell me.
I then proceeded to ask for his boss's name and he also would not give me his name. I told him if he doesn't tell me I will call in the morning and find out myself and so then he told me. I cannot even believe this company would allow someone to speak to customers like this. ALSO, I spoke with a woman in accounting and when I asked if there was a contact number to reach Kevin Coan, she told me she does not give that information out to customers and the only way I can reach him is to write a letter.
I told her I know that is not true because I contacted him in years past and she then said well I wouldn't give it out for a matter like this. She didn't even know why I was asking or what experiences I have had. I spoke with someone in oil and when I asked to speak to someone in service because my furnace shut off, he told me that I would need to make a payment before they spoke to me. REALLY?
I can't even ask a question to someone to know what I should do next because I had no heat when I walked in and wanted to take preventative measures in the freezing cold. AWFUL!

I'm tired of getting jerked around by these time-wasting crooks. They charged us $150 more than quoted for an oil tank replacement, then they lied about how much oil we had in the old tank when they filled the new tank (so they could charge us for the difference), and now the latest outrage is that they have now sent 2 different techs out to the house when we had no heat, but then they refuse to perform the necessary maintenance so that our furnace will stop kicking off and leaving us with no heat! Said they wouldn't be able to get to it until FEBRUARY!
Add this to the unbelievably rude "Customer Service" duds they have answering their phones. I think they expect us to keep paying them $100+ every couple of days when our furnace needs to be re-set because they won't fix it. THE WORST.

Coan Oil charged $2.29 a gallon for oil when the price is $1.59 all in the area and justified it with service? 70 cents more a gallon? I have a service contract I pay for annually and they could fix service furnace ect. What is up with this? I have been paying these people for years until my wife brought this to my attention. I called them and they could care less, this is our price for oil! Oh, but the service?
They have been taken me for a big ride for years. These people have made tons of money because my wife took care of the oil bill. 30% more for oil and they wanted to justify this to me. Am I insane? Crooked is what I call them! Remember, if you have an annual service contract can't they charge what they want? What are you going to do about it? Think about it. They have you locked in a cage with their oil with superior delivery service, Right? SS

I live on a very limited income, and so I qualify for fuel assistance via a local agency. On January 26th, I borrowed money from a friend, and I paid $300 in cash for 100 gallons of home heating oil, which Coan delivered 2 days later, on January 28th. I have a receipt for the $300 I paid. I have a statement from Coan showing I paid $300, and then they delivered $289.90 (100 gallons) worth of oil, on Jan. 28th.
When I called Coan a month later to find out how much fuel assistance money I had left, so I knew how much I needed to scrape up myself, they told me I had none. And yet days before, the agency I work with for fuel assistance, said I had $210.14 left on my account with them. I gave the agency a call and they said they'd just been billed for the remainder of my fuel assistance money.to pay for the load of oil I received on Jan. 28th.the load I'd already paid for almost a month ago!
The very same load I have a receipt and a statement for. My fuel assistance agency said I needed to call Coan to straighten the issue out. When I called Coan back.their stance was that they had a perfect right to bill the agency for an oil delivery I'd already paid for. When I asked where my $300 went, they said "it's been applied to your account (balance).it's all one and the same." However, it's NOT all one and the same.
I now have no fuel assistance money left! And I'm down to a low 1/8 of a tank of oil, with temps below zero at night, for most of this week. I call what Coan did.double dipping, sleezy, and heartless.as they told me on my recent call to them, they knew I needed another oil delivery soon.and showed no concern or care that I'm close to running out of oil to heat my home. I would not recommend this company, for their poor business practices.

Oil prices are consistently considerably higher than local competitors. I paid $200 for annual furnace maintenance and when I called today to schedule the maintenance the service lady informed me that because I have not purchased all of my oil from COAN (although I did purchase several thousands of dolalrs last winter) they would not service my furnace.
I immediately asked for a refund of that 200 dollars only to be told that that fee also covers emergency service. She frankly argued with me during the duration of the phone call. I further informed her that they DO NOT provide emergency service. I define EMERGENCY SERVICE as coming to the home when the furnace isn't functioning properly, even after 5pm and on the weekends.
Shortly after I purchased this agreement I needed EMERGENCY assistance because the furnace wasn't functioning properly in December at 7pm on a Friday. The technician who finally answered the phone told me quite pointedly that no one was available for that kind of coverage after hours. Hardly EMERGENCY service. I stayed at a friends with my three children for the weekend and contacted another service (from whom I now purchase the bulk of my oil) on Monday. I have to say, the loss of the $200 dollars doesn't bother me nearly as much as the crappy customer service I just experienced.

Truly, the WORST experience I ever had. I accepted their offer only because of the price. Boy, was I wrong. This was during the heat wave of June. Coan's sales person was in our house and gave us an estimate. Once they scheduled the installation, they found out that they don't have what they sold me in the inventory. I took them a couple of weeks to get it. That's OK, it happens. Then, they installed only the AC and the heat pump, but did not attach the oil heating.
They didn't tell me that. The AC worked as it should. Then, few nights later, it was a cold night so we tried to use the heat pump or the oil heating, whatever works. Apparently, they wired the heat pump wrong and didn't connect the oil heating at all so we (myself, wife and 10 months old baby) froze during the night. They came in the next day and wired the heat pump properly.
Few weeks later, after calling them again and again (and not getting too much response) they came to try and wire the system to use the oil heating system as backup. That didn't work. Weeks later, after calling them again and again (and not getting too much response) they finally came and wired it properly. When I called asking if they already have the wiring schemes ready, they told me that they have it ready.
So why didn't you call me? why wait for me to call you when we are in the process for so long? This whole process took 2 and half months! I had to take 4 days off work (instead of 2) and wasted a lot of time leaving voice mails as no one returned my calls, but they knew that I was angry and frustrated. Their responsiveness is horrible. Eventually, I asked for some compensation.
I didn't ask to get everything for free, but a small discount might have made me feel better. Instead, their distributor called me and told me that for the price I paid, this is the service that I deserve. The funny thing is that they wasted my time on that call, while apologizing for wasting my time, but they did not want to give me any discount. "It happens" and "most of our installations go smooth" was their normal excuse, forgetting that sometimes things go bad and you need to handle them properly.
So all in all - I would highly recommend to pay the extra buck and get a better company. As they told me - you get what you paid for, so don't be tempted by the low price!

Although Coan has provided reliable service for oil delivery and furnace maintenance, they've been horrible about repairing the air conditioner they installed. They don't seem to have a clue. They spend and charge for hours of time wasted on a wild goose chase, and if you complain, they call it diagnostics! Any doctor would be sued for malpractice for this kind of diagnostics!
Their service managers are rude and treat women as if they think we're idiots. Long story short, if you want to be cool when it's hot out, find another company to install and service your air conditioner.
