Matthew had the unfortunate job of letting me know my compressor was out on my AC. He was so informative, professional, and nice. He answered all my questions and I felt he was very honest about what he thought I should do when looking at all the options. I also thought the quote I received was very reasonable, I had gotten a quote from a competitor that was outrageous so I was so relieved that the quote from Dean's was in my budget. I would definitely consider using this company again and can't speak highly enough of the technician that came out!

Stellar service was provided again by Isaac, the Dean's air conditioning technician. Isaac was very deliberate in his HVAC maintenance work and he answered all my questions thoroughly. I must say that Isaac represents Deans business very well! I look forward to his next visit in the spring. Lastly I wish to express my appreciation for Isaac's honesty and ethics, unlike the awful treatment I received from my hometown HVAC business, which thrives on expensive replacement systems, even though they're not needed. Many thanks again.

It's hard for me to give Dean Air even 1 star. We had a whole new unit installed with dual controls and have had problems from day 1. Soon after installation the unit was leaking through the ceiling. The ceiling and insulation had to be replaced. We thought Dean Air fixed the problem, but after noticing the ceiling leaking again, we called another company.
This is what was shown to us. The support for the air handler was not built properly because the duct work is pushing down on the unit causing water to head in the opposite direction of the drain. Because the air handler is tilting from the weight, water is now draining to the lowest point. there is no pan there which is causing water to leak AGAIN through the ceiling.
This was not only faulty installation, but poor business practice. As many times someone came out to fix something on the unit, why did we have to call another company to correct Dean Air's poor workmanship.

I'm not sure why the mobile technicians at this service feel the need to drive maniacally on 501, cutting people off during morning rush hour traffic, but if that's any reflection of their business then they are not very professional. Judging from this I can't say anything about their service, but I wouldn't recommend them based on this.

We have had this service for 13 years. In the past their service has been excellent. Lately however I can't even get them to return my calls for maintenance service! The technicians have still been very good. The service however has gone way down hill Find someone else for your HVAC service. We will as soon as our contract runs out.

We have used Dean since we moved to SC from MA in 2015, and they have always been professional, thorough and have always performed quality HVAC maintenance. They were a big help a few years ago when we had issues with our new HVAC system installed by a different HVAC company; they came out after the other company, Reliable Heating & Air, told me they had no one who could come to the house, and fixed our issue at a reasonable price.
I have noticed over time that their service has slipped a little. They used to call to make an appointment for service, then they changed to sending reminder postcards, now they do nothing until you call them. Because of this, we went from August 2020 to May 2021 without a service check, definitely my responsibility, but something that I could always rely on them to call for.
When I renewed my annual service agreement in March 2021, we went to May with no phone call, even though the reminder renewal notice said they would call, and even though I was fully paid up. When I did call, they said it would be 4 weeks before anyone could come to the house. I understand that they are likely short of staff as are other businesses during this trying time, but we were always told that maintenance agreement customers had priority for service.
So much for priority. They will have had my payment for 3+ months before they finally perform any service. I will still use them, as I do respect their quality of service and their professionalism and am comfortable with the company, but I'm a bit disappointed lately. They're light years ahead of Reliable, but waiting until late June is a but much. I wonder what would happen if we actually had an issue rather than just a simple need for a check-up.

So first off spent 4,000 to completely replace our hvac, during the install they managed to fall through our garage ceiling from the attic. Ok I told them no prob just fix it. Instead of hiring a professional they did a crappy job them selves and left the job half finished. Then then we realized they didn't check the drainage of the new hvac and it isn't working properly.
I called and they told me it would be at least another 1000 to fix! Don't ever use this company, we have been having to pump our ac with a shop vac for two years because they are low life scam artist. Go with anyone and I mean ANYONE else!

I had to deal with Dean Custom Air on three different HVAC issues after purchasing my new home and they were all a nightmare. They make their money on big builder installs; dealing with warranty problems after the sale are treated as a nuisance. This review does not address technicians and service managers because they are ghosts. The only person you are allowed to contact is the rude lady answering the phone, Caitlin.
Ask for anyone else in the company and they are not available. She is both combative and obnoxious and thrives on customer frustration not satisfaction. She refused to set up an appointment for me that Dean's own technician told me to have her set up as a follow up to complete my unfinished system checkup. Eventually one of them came on their own.
I told the general manager BB about her but he just made a lame excuse that she probable thought my unit was AC and not Heat Pump. OK, so maybe she is incompetent as well as rude, but she rules the roost so good luck getting to speak with anyone that may actually understand HVAC systems or care to assist you. It took 6 months to get my rusted outdoor unit cage replaced(warranty), and only after I contacted Carrier directly and got a case number.
My compressor died in the 15th month and I eventually paid another company to do the new compressor install after 12 days with no AC. The compressor was still warranty but the labor was not. I was given many promises and excuses but NEVER received a call for an install date from Dean. I was told my compressor was "on order" for 6-8 days. EVERY other HVAC company in our area, including the one I eventually used, could get one within one day in Myrtle Beach or delivered from Raleigh.
My advice is if you have a choice DO NOT deal with them. If you are unfortunate enough to buy a home where they did the install (like me) and you have a problem, I feel sorry for you. You will get excuses and/or no return calls until you get frustrated enough to go elsewhere.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude in regards to a recent semi annual maintenance check-up. In particular, I would like to complement your associate, Todd, for a job well done. Todd was on time, he was thorough and above all, professional in every aspects related to HVAC maintenance. His work ethics and technical skills resulted in "A peace of Mind" experience. Dean Custom Air has always been at the top of my list.complete satisfaction.great service and above all.a great Company. We had contacted Dean on Mar. 2, 2018 regarding an air conditioning issue in one of our rooms. On Mar. 16 two boxes were dropped off to record temperatures in the house. We never heard back from Dean and called to set another appointment. On Apr. 27 (Fri.) Todd came out (45 minutes late), to go over the readings on the boxes. What he told us could have been handled with a phone call to us, because after his explanations, he said we had to set another appointment to have the air flow checked.
He said we would receive a call the following week - probably Mon. When we didn't receive a call by Thurs. (May 3), we called Dean. We were told they never received the paperwork to call us! Then we were told it would be 2 weeks before someone could come out because they only have two technicians to check air flow! We have dealt with two other carriers in previous homes, and received much better service.
We would like to hear back from Dean to know why the paperwork was never turned in, and why this is now taking 2 months to find a solution to this problem. (p.s. - Your Dean testimonial website doesn't work - I called Dean and was told to use Google.)

We have used the service of Dean for several years. We are always impressed by the efficiency of the Technician, high level of customer service and their ability to go above and beyond what is expected. We tried another service one year and after a five minute visit to our home, we called Dean and had them come in to service our unit.

Dean installed the AC system in my "new construction" home in September 2015. Since then, I have unfortunately had recurring problems with my system's cooling. There is a coolant leak, as every few months at least a pound is needed, at my expense. The repairmen are rude. I am forced to wait days for service. And I'm charged much more than necessary.
I have written proof that Dean wanted to charge me for unnecessary parts and labor. I am a Widow and feel Dean tried to take advantage of me. I got a second opinion from another company (they did not know theirs was a second opinion). Stay away from Dean.they prey on Widows, assuming we are helpless. My Lennox, installed by Dean, is 2.5 years old. Five service calls. Problem continues. Don't use Dean.

Dean installed and responded to problems with our AC for almost two years now. Within a year of installation a critical part failed which they replaced. Now the system has developed a "leak" which required 3 pounds of Freon (or whatever is used currently) costing us over $250 because some part needed to be retightened. Was it not tightened properly when they installed it less than two years ago?
Although the techs are always responsive and courteous the same cannot be said for the folks staffing their phone lines. Curt, sarcastic and condescending attitudes are the rule when you call Dean. We are looking for someone else for our HVAC needs.
