I am thoroughly disgusting with Michaels & Sons and will never ever ever use them again. Our area is infamous for electrical outages, you sneeze the power might go out. I had this company install a in home generator and a inspection would be done in a few days. Now I'm finding out that's not true it could take weeks. And that should've been my call to make not theirs.
I would've waiting until they had the permit and then scheduled the install. Nor did they apply the $250 off to my account not was it discussed with me before hand that I would need to upgrade the amps to my power line with Dominion. I will be contacting the BBB.

Jose, the plumber was extremely pleasant, well organized and very professional. If we can have him every time, I would be very happy. His Work is very clean and even answered all our questions. You truly have a great employee. Mr Ed Clark, the manager we worked with was extremely responsive. I know he only started working for your company but after over four months of calling, no responses or call backs from any of your managers, Mr Clark immediately called us back, has been nothing but awesome and saw to it that we got our bathroom done.
He told my husband not to have the plumber leave until we were satisfied and Jose's work was exemplary. With really fabulous employees on your team, my husband and I will remain loyal Mike and sons customers since we know those two are on the car. Mr Clarke, Jose, you don't know how happy you have made us and after having a few very bad days, Jose lifted my spirit with his smile and at least add approach. We are extremely grateful! Michael & Sons has done my furnace installation and electrical panel upgrade as well as regular maintenance on my A/C and heating. They are always professional and are mostly on time. They could be a little better about cleaning up after themselves but it's not a huge complaint since they do a good job on the actual project at hand. There are small things I wish they would be more clear about such as they won't be patching the square they cut out of my wall to work on the electrical panel so I have to find someone to do that as I'm not handy myself. They're not the cheapest service but they're not the most expensive and most of their services have a pretty good warranty that's included.

Our 15 year old water heater had to get replaced and I was able to get next day service through online scheduling with Michael & Son. The technician came right on time. It was a big job to be done by one person not to mention he has to go get the new unit and to haul away the old one. 5 hours later our hot water system is back in business. The technician is knowledgeable and patient. Great service and I will definitely recommend this company.

We reached out to Michael & Sons to have some electric run for a built-in under-cabinet wine fridge in our kitchen. Fortunately Joshua was able to come out for a same-day estimate and scheduled work for just a few days later. He was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and left the space tidy after he was finished. We will definitely keep him in mind for any future projects in our home

Our technician came for a check on our air conditioning system and was very thorough in the system check and the review of the recommendations, noting was was necessary to address sooner and what we could watch and address down the line. The technician was on time, very courteous, and pleasant to work with. He took the time to explain each recommendation and to answer my many questions. We'll definitely use them again in the future, and I hope to have the same technician work with us again!

Began working for this company in June 2021 and at first things were great. Friendly environment, great coworkers, and what felt like a good place to be. Quickly things began to decline as there were changes in management and a lack of accountability throughout the company. Many times complaints were made to management and upper management and no changes were made.
Back in December, there was an 11-page spreadsheet of collective complaints within the department I was working in, and this included dates, times, recorded calls, etc. None of which were addressed. There's no point in putting in a two weeks notice because they will cut you immediately, as playing favorites is one thing they do all too well. Post my departure from the company, I contacted the director of HR with these complaints that were never addressed and also brought to their attention specific issues we were facing the call center became a hostile environment.
I was asked to provide all documentation and I even provided (with their permission) the contacts of the former employees who also faced abuse from upper management, including but not limited to even complaints about the Vice President of the Company. None of which were ever looked into throughout or addressed. Beyond not only the lack of care this company has for their employees they also pay very poor.
You can make more work at Target or even a Kroger. The technicians are not all bad, many of them are rude to the dispatchers as well as the service managers who also lack accountability. There is and will be verbal abuse, and emotional abuse, and this is NOT an equal opportunity employer. Save yourself the peace of mind and find somewhere better. Do NOT let them fool you.
The only positive that came from working here was the friends I have gained and the knowledge to know better than to stay in a place that has little care of value for their people. I promise it will never be bad enough to stay somewhere like here. This isn't a form of verbal maliciousness towards the company but it is towards their "culture" and "values" because they do not hold anyone to those standards nor do they treat people that way.

Contacted Michael and Son for general plumbing and pipe repair in a location that had very difficult access. One of their highly experienced plumbers, Eric Blackmon, called and asked to see if he could come early. I was overjoyed as our water supply had to be turned off. Erick immediately assessed the situation and briefed me on some of the complexities and how he planned to proceed with the repairs.
He kept me completely informed of his progress and asked me to inspect the project when completed. He was very knowledgeable and shared some of that with me. He then asked if I needed any other repairs work and then made some expert suggestions of other potential problems that I should keep my eye on. This was a very friendly approach with no pressure applied - information only, and I appreciate that. I will certainly ask for him for any future plumbing needs. George 04/09/2022

Our service person was very nice and knowledgeable and completed the work in a timely manner. However, the work (electrical panel replaced) that was done to me is "incomplete" but according to M&S it is complete and we would have to get a "handyman crew" to fix the dry wall that the Michael & Son employee cut out and drilled back in a sloppy manner.
I emailed Michael and Son's customer service and was told it's an additional cost for the dry wall to be fixed.usually costing $350 extra. Also, originally we were going to use their "leasing program" in order for this unexpected job to be completed. We asked every question we could think of to our service person and the bank they use for this program.
It was not explained that if we paid it off early that there would be a "buyout" to complete the 120 month contract they wanted us to sign. ($10k total) This whole process to me was not very smooth and to honest "incomplete" due to the extra dry wall that had to be cut below the paneling. UPDATE 4/7/22 We were told the job was "complete" about a month ago, however when the Dominion person came out today to inspect the final project, there was a copper wire that wasn't grounded. M&S had to come back out and complete the job a 2nd time.

My experience with this company has been horrible. Many steps were missed or just avoided, I paid twice for them to complete a job that was never fixed, and they caused over a thousand dollars worth of damage to my property. Finally, I had Davis and Green come out to properly remove the clog since this company was unable to fix the problem but had no problem taking our money. Don't trust them with your home!

It is unfortunate that this company sends standard responses to complaints and does not reach out directly to the customer. If the person responding to my posting had taken the time to review my account they would see that I called and asked to be contacted by customer relations several times. I am stuck with this heating/hot water heating system that I paid $15,000 for and only worked for 3 months.
I am very disappointed. This company installed a furnace and hot water heater system in November. Three months later I discovered water leaking from the system, there was water all over the floor. A tech came out on a Wednesday but was able to make the repair. The tech shut off the valve and had me turn off the system. He returned the next day and stopped the leak.
Due to warmer than normal temps I didn't realize the heat was not working and on Saturday morning the temperature in my house was in the 40s. A tech came out for the third time on Saturday but wasn't able to fix it. I would have to wait until Monday. The tech returned for the forth time, was here for about an hour. He left saying that he thinks he knows what the issue is but it is 1100 on Monday and I am still without heat and hot water and waiting for the tech to return.
I don't have any confidence that even if this system is fixed that it won't break down again. I began calling customer service on Saturday when it was clear that the system couldn't be fixed. I asked for a replacement of my system. Unfortunately the people who could help were not available on the weekend. I waited until 8 on Monday and still had not received a called.
At this point I was quite angry. I finally received a call back and I vehemently expressed that I wanted a replacement system. I was told it didn't work that way and he wasn't in the mood to be yelled at and hung up. I have been without heat and hot water since Friday and I am unsure when my system will be repaired.

Michael & Son - Plumbing - Shower Repair - 2/23/2022 The technician respected my property by putting on foot covers at the door (each time) and not parking in my driveway without asking. I appreciated that the technician followed health protocols for wearing a face mask. The technician asked about the problem and listened to my concern ("The shower will not stop dripping").
The technician explained his assessment of the problem based on his inspection and he offered a solution. He offered assurance that Michael and Son could fix the problem and the price (up scale) for the service. The technician completed the repairs promptly and professionally. After he completed the repair he showed and explained what he had done.
While I am very satisfied with the completed repair, my confidence in Michael & Son could have been boosted higher if the specifics of the written warranty for the services and parts I received today was highlighted on the invoice. I am very satisfied!

Mark came out from Michael & Son. He was great! Professional, on time, and extremely personable. I asked if he would let me watch what he was doing so I could learn a little about what was going on and he explained everything every step of the way. He made sure I was all good with the finished result and was extremely pleasant. I see on their site they have a home care plan and I will definitely be getting that now because of how great Mark was.

I've used Michael and Son twice now. They are probably more expensive than the competition; however, I've had other contractors do work that failed after a short period of time or the work wasn't done properly. Overall, I'm happy with their work and Drew Gage, the plumbing tech who came out most recently, was just wonderful to work with. I should also add they were able to respond to my issue and come out the same day I called.

Worst company I have ever worked for. My conscience ate at me when a customer called for a service call. WHY? Because I knew the technician was going rip them off & do a terrible job on repairs. They prefer sales calls over service calls and only care about your money. Management is HORRIBLE on every single level. M&S says they care but their actions are loud & clear otherwise. *** STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY *** P.S. you have to give them at least a 1 star review. my choice is they get ZERO stars.

Quick to Quote and Upsell but slow to actually service or repair. Michael and Sons was able to have a technician to come out within a day of calling to request repairs and service on my 2 HVAC units. I had 4 options to choose from the same day of the visit then came the tough part. I called to schedule the actual service, repair and service, the nice CSR took my order and said " someone will be in touch with you to schedule the service".
After 2 days of not hearing from the "someone" I called back. I went through the same routine because the CSR could not reference my call to schedule the service. She could only pull up the initial visit and assessment. After requesting the service and repair call I then asked, how long should I expect to wait before receiving the call to schedule the actual repair, and she said 24 to 48 hours.
She did explain sometimes they have to wait on parts before they schedule the visit. I then asked her at what point do I know that this is what is being done and she did not have an answer. I explained that no response would only to force me to search from another provider. To date, I've not received a call to schedule the service/repair from either call. My first call to schedule the repair visit was Friday July 30th and the second call was Monday August 2nd. Today is August the 7th and no word from Michael and Sons.

Our appointment window today was 2-4pm. There have been major rains in Richmond the past few days so we were surprised to get an appointment so quick. 4:00 came and no one called or showed up. At 4:40 my husband called, spoke with a gentleman who said the tech was wrapping up on his last job and we were next.we waited patiently knowing there was flooding in the area, we were flooded too.
At 7:45 I called and spoke with another gentleman who said the tech was still at a job but should be wrapping up soon; y'all THREE HOURS LATER. No one took initiative to contact us. I asked if the tech was definitely coming tonight he said yes. At 8:30 a someone from Michael and Sons called to say the tech in fact would NOT be coming tonight.
I cannot describe how frustrated I am at the lack of communication and the utter lack of care from the folks we've dealt with today. We've used M&S several times in the past, they were a good bit more expensive than other companies we felt the service was worth it. Tonight made it very clear we will never use them again.

I called them to fix a kitchen ceiling fluorescent tube light fixture. The installer persuaded me to replace with a LED rack. The price of $699 seemed really expensive but I had faith in the Michael & Sons brand, so I agreed. Today I saw a similar light at Lowes for $99, so even if the light cost $200 they charged me $500 for a one hour installation. This misunderstanding was resolved to our mutual satisfaction. The product and the installer were/are outstanding

We had one toilet where we had to flush two or three times to completely flush the contents of the toilet and another toilet that whistled every time it was flushed. Called Michael & Son Services. The "Professional" came in and looked at both toilets and immediately said the brand of toilets we had were inferior. After looking at the toilets he sat down and did a hard sell for their annual home care agreement.
To rebuild the toilets he said he would need to special order parts from the toilet manufacturer which they would gladly do for $190 a toilet ($380 for two toilets) after which they could rebuild the toilets for $478. The "Professional", however, recommended replacing the two toilets which would come to $1,247.02 if we also bought the annual home care agreement or $1,636.70 if we did not buy the annual home care agreement.
With the hard sell and the way he confused things by saying what costs would be with or without the annual home care agreement, I paid the $69 dispatch fee to get him out of the house as soon as possible. Several days later someone recommended an independent plumber who came in and determined that the toilet that took two or three flushes before emptying completely was because of sediment buildup in what I learned was the siphon jet or "blow hole" that allows for a siphon action which is strong enough to completely flush the contents of the toilet with the first flush.
With a simple wire hanger he poked around in the siphon jet releasing a lot of sediment. Once cleaned out the toilet worked perfectly flushing everything with just one flush. With the whistling toilet he had the parts necessary to resolve that (no special order parts). He charged $125, both toilets working great. Will not be calling Michael & Son again.

Yesterday, we requested. Michael and Son Services come to our house to check out (and potentially service) our hot water heater which is not working. When we called to schedule the service, we specifically requested that we not be pressured to buy their service plan. We were informed of a $69 dispatch fee, for which we got nothing. When the technicians arrived, they put on some booties, laid down a door mat, flashed a flashlight on my hot water heater and then told me that they would get me an estimate.
They did not touch the hot water heater, push the pilot light button nothing. They went back to their van for several minutes and came back with the pamphlet of their services. And then with an estimate of $125 to try the pilot light, another $150 to diagnose the issue or $2,500 to replace the hot water heater (along with pressure to buy a $42 monthly service plan for that hot water heater).
For $69, I got an estimate. An estimate based on nothing but them shining a flashlight on my hot water heater. And a condescending tone. And pressure to purchase a maintenance plan. I contacted a new contractor and was quoted a price of more than $1,000 less for the hot water heater replacement. I also reached out to M&S customer service, who declined to reimburse the $69 dispatch fee (per my request) and challenged the quality of the new, highly rated contractor. Instead, I was offered a half price trip for them to try to light the pilot light--something that seems like it should have been done from the beginning. I will never use this company again. They take advantage of and pressure their customers.

(I would offer 1.5 stars were it an option) I hired M&S after two bids to 1) wire my backyard along the fence one 2) install three new outlets inside my home and 3) install three outdoor ceiling fans. The estimate was approximately $4500. It was more expensive but came with a warranty and better upfront customer service. The electrician arrived on time.
He had technology to process payments on site. He was pleasant and knowledgeable. The job was quoted to be a one day job. He arrived on time on May 15. It was brutally hot. He got busy trenching the yard to wire the fence line. His machine's belt broke. He said he would have to return in two days to finish it. He came back out on May 18. He started that work, again very pleasant.
Towards the end of the day, the machine broke again. He said he would have to come back a third time. I had a landscape architect that next week and this would have taken us through the holiday weekend and delayed my service. I called the main office to speak to someone about why a one day job was taking so long. They "took my message". My fiance called and was put in touch with a supervisor who promised us it would be finished that day.
They sent two helpers to finish the job. The last piece was to have the outlets inspected by the city. I was told they handle of that and it would be done within a week. On June 7th I had never heard from anyone at M&S. I called in to see how and when the inspection would be done. I was told that the inspection was never ordered and they would get to it today.
The service is almost complete after three weeks, $4500 and there is negligible communication from M&S or satisfactory resolution. I would likely not use them again despite a strong electrician because the service is unacceptable.

I had a terrible experience with Michael & Son! A service representative disconnected my toilet on November 20 to find the source of a leak. It's January and the toilet is still disconnected. The representative found that the leak was caused by a ring that needed to be replaced. However, he couldn't replace the ring and reconnect the toilet until the flooring was checked for mold and soundness.
This involved another service visit which didn't take place until December. After ripping up the flooring, no mold was found and the wood was sound. In the process, the service representative broke the molding on my baseboards. After this visit I never heard from Michael & Son again. Repeated calls have not been returned. My bathroom remains a wreck. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

I bought an A/C unit that came with a bunch of extras (Home plumbing/electrical free inspections and 2 free unit checkups) for a pretty decent price. The salesman was awesome, courteous, informative and great. That also goes for Rakim/William that installed my A/C, Bobby who inspected my plumbing and Trevor who inspected my electrical. Thanks a lot guys! I definitely will consider Michael and Sons for any future work to my home.

Water damage to the house cause by their installation of an A/C unit.now they are denying it. I have no recourse but to explore all possible avenues to recoup our losses. Filed a complaint with the BBB and state attorney general's office to start. ***Thank you for your reply when no one else follows up on our phone calls and emails. We have all the documentation needed to proceed with the legal action and have located others in the exact situations.
We are only looking for a resolution. As recommended by the rep at Michael and Sons, I posted my negative review to Angie's List and Facebook also. I recommend all homeowners to take videos or photos whenever the technician comes to the house.and call michael and sons on your cell phone so you can print the phone record of proof you called them or they called you cause they will deny it.

I learned very quickly after moving to Virginia last year to never use Michael and Sons. Their quote to you has nothing to do with how much the job actually costs but how much the technician thinks he can bilk you for. Yes - bilk. I had 2 hot water heater issues this past year. I called Michael and son. Within 39 seconds of arriving the diagnoses was "you're going to need a new hot water heater, this thing is shot".
He hadn't even taken the panel off the thing yet! I asked how much that was. The quote was 3000 dollars. I laughed. Turns out the circuit blew for the plug it was hooked up into. It was the electrical outlet and had zero to do w the hot water heater itself. I found this out myself later because the tech didn't bother continuing on. He wanted to talk to me about their home servicing plan and get the 3000 dollar hot water heater job set up Every step is a sales pitch.
When you call their office they'll mention their yearly maintenance plan. The technician spent 3 minutes telling me my 3 year old hot water heater needed to be replaced but another 30 minutes boring me to death with his sales pitch about their yearly maintenance plans. Not a good experience. I ended up fixing the issue with the outlet myself for 20 dollars.
My hot water heater has been running perfectly a year later. The tactics used by the folks at this company are very shady. Think my experience was unique? Just read most of the other reviews about them. This IS how they do business and it is NOT going to change. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Find a small local company for services.
